Being based in MEM but not living there, anyone know of any decent hotels to stay for training?

Folks on this site have spoken about the Homewood Suites--but you'll need wheels. I'm waiting for a call back from the Holiday Inn 4 Bullets for a "long-term" rate. When I hear back from them, I'll post it here.

Good luck, I've got training coming up too in about 6 months.

I have stayed at the Homewood before, and it is nice. But I am not looking to drop a lot of $$. Just want a place that I wont get shot, and is fairly close to the airport!:)

Close to the airport and won't get shot. I think that's the null set. I'll let you know when I hear from the Holiday Inn...if that's a risk you're willing to take.

The Homestead Suites have gone WAY downhill the last few years. The only places to eat are a Subway about a 1 mile walk, or the Holiday Inn (about 1 mile as well). The Econolodge is around $5 more per night than Homestead, but is across the parking lot from the Holiday Inn, so eating is a little closer. It is probably the nicest affordable place near the airport currently, but don't take that as a rousing endorsement

Bottom line: the hotel situation in MEM is really bad, especially in the current economy. I gave up, drove a car cross country and got a crashpad.

Try the Clarion on Brooks. Go south on Airways off of Democrat and take the first traffic light to the right and go down just shy of I-55. They will pick up at the airport and flt ops and take you to training and places to eat on Elvis Presley Blvd. They have an airline pilot discount of 55 per night and a decent free breakfast--small buffet. I've used it for a couple of years--I like the location better than the Hollow Point and you don't hear the AM launch as much.

For what it's worth.

I'd be willing to bet that Brooks is a REALLY, REALLY bad neighborhood. Check the MEM crime stats before going that route ...

You're in a rock and a hard place. All the hotels around the airport are in bad areas. If you have to be close to the airport, the Radisson on the airport is probably the best in my opinion. If you have transportation, find a room to rent in Southhaven or if you can deal with a longer drive, Germantown.

Good luck.

Well, I went cheap with the Days Inn on Elvis. Online it was $55/night. Thanks for the advice.
