Long Term Training out...

Don't forget ...
Don't forget what the announcement of a furlough would trigger ...
Or maybe they just don't have tentative dates for FE Panel training determined yet. That would be the likely story ...
Due to instructor availability, the majority of DC8 long term training will be bid at a later date. Any crewmember awarded a DC8 position in the above system bids, and requires long term training, but is not awarded a training date in this bid, will be contacted about a future training bid. Please note that only nine DC8 Second Officers requiring long term training will be awarded a training date at this time.

wow, seriously? would you have said it was less likely if they had posted training dates for 30 more FEs? I guess I was hoping they were just 1. waiting to get more FE Instrs and/or 2. planning another system bid before they have to train everyone twice. Guess I'm being overly optimistic...

not good
I would say the fact that the company has no plans to train 58 FE's a bad sign. It makes it that much cheaper to cut once the others are trained to their new positions. Tighten your belts the ride is about to get even rougher (at least for us junior guys).

Guys, the DC8 trainer ranks are being decimated by this bid. Before you guys think furlough, it is quite possible that they don't have enough people to do the training. Also, isn't it a good thing that you guys are still flying in your current seat? Maybe another bid will come out, letting you all to bid off the -8 before you have to actually train? This has happened before. Just chill and wait - it's not always bad news.

UPS is still kicking the can down the road on this one, this alleviates the need for moving cost and training folks where they don't need to be trained. Is it possible to "F"? Sure, but it was still possible if they trained or not. I think they are going quarter by quarter. Everyone is safe until reevaulated in April.
I also know that we will need 747-400 to carry lift out of Washington and fly to each of the 50 states under the new Obama stimulus plan. How much does a trillion dollars weigh? 22 for each million... that's a lot of lift..
