That's eight years longer than I plan on working. Nice flamebait though.

Agreed. Concessionary bargaining should not become the rule, however I think he raises some good points to think about.

I have no delusions that given the uncontrollable and slanted system in place to negotiate contracts that those of us on the bottom AND below age 50 (or 45) will literally have to work until we die. That being said, I don't want to do it here, a place that takes me away from home for nearly half my days for less compensation then I would have received in the '70's and '80's.

I think the time for us to 'wise up' to their tricks is long overdue and I won't ridicule someone that begins to think outside the existing system. Collectively we were late on the age 60-65 fiasco, so maybe it's time for the 'youngsters' to start taking some little measure of control sooner, rather than later.

Comfortable retirement, and all the bennies that used to come with it, has become a bit of morphine for the masses and is something that, quite frankly, I doubt I will ever have a chance to enjoy. The time has come to start treating this 'career' like a 'job' and grabbing whatever we can, when we can (in the spirit and shadow of corporate executives everywhere). Personally I have begun to view working here as a part-time, temporary arrangement that offers no security, no advancement, and certainly no personal satisfaction.

How about zero penalty if you have worked 25 years here, no matter what your age is?

Why change what we already have and worked hard to keep? What a doofus.

Numbers guy, God bless America and the right to voice our opinions. BUT, please do not ever try to be in on the negotiating committee. PLEASE?

What this amounts to is whether or not you believe you will be able to retire under the current contractual language. Currently, Alaska Airlines negotiations are at a stalemate, they have the retirement age defined at 60 and are facing this issue. I believe UPS does as well. We're next at the contract negotiating table. Of course we'd all like to believe that the contract won't change by some external circumstance...but it did once (60 to 65) and I believe it will again. Section 28.A.5 leaves plenty of room for a change in the law to change the definitions surrounding our pension. Shoot, it might have passed already, did you get a look at the last stimulus bill before it turned into law? I didn't. FDX has much influence in Washington. I, for one, would like an opportunity to influence this one, before I just have to shake my head in the vertical.

Hopefully he is only trying to poke fun at the older generation. If he's serious, he is in dire need of education or counseling. It's one thing to poke fun at someone, it's another thing entirely to be willing to save a company billions by this change just to prove a twisted point.

Default Single issue voter here!

I've told JG that I'm a single issue voter on the next contract ... If it doesn't say "normal retirement age is 60" (like it does now), I"M VOTING NO!

Well, right now, its 0% penalty, and the ONLY way that changes is if we give it away in a contract negotiation or FedEx takes it away in bankruptcy!

DUDE, the law changed the regulatory age and did not change our contract - which is why we can still go at 60 WITHOUT penalty, because it was in the contract that the normal retirement age is 60. And you want to give that away? You want to write into the contract a requirement that I'll be senior to you for ANOTHER five years?
