Furloughed in Anchorage - UPS
Already heard a story about a guy in the process of moving his stuff up to Anchorage as part of the three-year agreement with UPS. Apparently his stuff is in transit, but he will definitely be a part of the 300 furloughees later this year.
His house was sold in the lower 48, so even if UPS send his stuff back to his original home, he doesn't have anywhere to put it anymore.
Does UPS have a responsibility to pilots in this situation? Can UPS just box peoples' stuff up, ship it to Alaska based on a mutual agreement of employment for three years, but then instead, furlough them in Alaska a few months later? Does a corporation making a billion a quarter have a responsibility to citizens and the community?
I wonder if we'll furlough at all? Or if the only people that are about to be furloughed are the most junior guys that UPS displaced to the DC-8 panel just last week.

FedEx posted a vacancy bid for CDG (Paris) and HKG (Hong Kong) domiciles. Rumor mill says (that despite a crummy ALPA negotiated Foreign Domicile Letter of Agreement) a few of our guys sold their homes in the US only to have FedEx cancel the bid ... Nice.

Bingo!!! To me, this has been a plan in the making for months. They knew what they were about to do when the last displacement bid came out. Get those guys out of ANC, train the replacements and then furlough. I don't think you will see 300, but 100 is, in my opinion, more likely. Great industry isn't it!!!

Doesn't UPS have a clause in the contract about furloughes = open flying ban and no vacation buyback? I seem to remember a few years ago that happened and UPS dropped the "F" talk real quick like....
