IPA furloughs gone for five years
The IPA told a potential furlough that he could be gone for 5 years.
If the IPA is telling guys to plan on being furloughed for five years, and we as an organization allow this to happen to our brothers and sisters like 'jungle' and 'average joe' suggest, don't be surprised if these guys take a job in management if offered.
I would, because it's obvious that this group isn't worth a

28,000 fewer block hours, dozens of acft parked, volume down 5-10%, mechanics furloughed, part-time ground pounders fired, full-time Teamsters laid off... do you see a pattern FR8K9?
Do you read the newspaper about the huge number of job losses and bankruptcies outside of UPS?
"allow this to happen"? You are confused and have grossly unrealistic expectations regarding the power of a union, IMO.

-Competition is gone
-oil is down
-they must be confident if they are buying back billions in their own stock
-buying airplanes
-fed is pumping money into the economy
I'll stand by my point, if we casually allow guys to be tossed to the street for years, this organization is done for!

One more thing. This is going to effect everyone that is not in the top 30% of the seniority list. A lot of guys still have their heads in the sand. If the economy doesn't improve going forward, UPS is going to need way less pilots. Many captains are going to be downgraded and many more are going to be forced to ANC. My opinion is that before this is all over the junior captain in the lower 48 will be a 92 hire and the junior captain in ANC will be a 94 hire.

No way we can operate for 5 years with 300 less pilots. I agree that when the recession ends UPS will be poised to capitalize on the lack of competition and fuel hedges. If the IPA is telling guys to expect a 5 year furlough than they have already struck a deal with UPS about concessions.

You believe the company is conspiring against the pilot group, but you haven't looked out the window to see what the economic weather is like, there is a severe storm going on out there and you seem to be unaware of it.
If you feel the need to continue to insult me, that is fine because I consider the source before I react, but I will ask that you not insult other members here who are writing thoughtful and rational posts.

This is the second term of Jimmy Carter aided by a radical left-wing Congressional leadership. You must be too young too remember that, so you may have to read some history books.
I got a mortgage then (1980) when the interest rate on an 80% loan came down to 12 1/2%.
