There are numerous military charters on the -400 for next month. I would hate to see UPS squander another good opportunity by not being unable to accept future charters because they don't have the appropriate staffing.

I think UPS' upper management is posturing for pay concessions by using the furlough card. But the day they put one IPAer on the street.....I'm with Biggs! Good feeling gone!

I hear a lot of talk about not picking up open time/JA, sick calls, injuries, etc. How about adding this one to the toolbox... QUIT BLOCKING-OUT EARLY.

What bothers me more than the guys hired directly into management are the former IPA guys who went over. I have zero respect for these guys, they will be the first to screw us over. Their job is strictly to undermine you and I. While not fitting the definiton of a scab, they are down at that same level.

I realize I'm just an average line guy. But if they furlough one IPA guy and no Mgt. pilots, I will NEVER do them a favor and go out of my way to make it miserable for them. Whatever it takes!

When I was a new hire at NWA, I flew with this captain who was furloughed back in the early 90's. I went to get on the radio to request something before we pushed back. He stopped me and said "Do not do someone else's job." After talking to him a bit more, he made it clear, that he was going to take back his time on the street penny by penny from NWA. I couldn't agree more!

While I agree with you to a point, I will say, that if you have not been in their shoes don't make assumptions. I know a couple that had to cross over due to health and family reasons. So don't be so quick to throw someone under the bus.

Be careful here. You may not know the circumstance behind some of these decisions to go to management. I know of one who lost his medical, and has since gotten it back. This gentleman is a true pilot advocate to this day. He just had a run of bad luck due to his health.

Lastly, as some have said before, we should not be fighting with these people, but rather we should consider that they will one day join our ranks in the IPA.

I suspect a lawsuit on the grounds that you can't have management doing union work. There is precedence on the IPAs side and UPS will have one hell of a fight on their hands. I know of lawyers willing to fight this for free. My sister is a professional union buster and she is amazed that UPS has gotten away with this for so many years. Furlough and that dog will be awoken. I suspect UPS doesn't want to do this. They announced a furlough hoping to get something from our contract. I have heard everything from PBS to not paying back sick time at the end of the year. The IPA came to UPS with hundreds of people willing to walk away so the bottom 300 don't get furloughed. UPS never figured that would happen. Now they are scratching their heads trying to figure out how to fix the mess they are in. PR nightmare if they don't allow guys to walk away voluntarily and instead insist on concessions and or furlough.

Your post sounded like what I want to hear from the next EB candidate. If there's a better way to galvanize the junior guys on the list to treat the co. w/ as much respect as the "class" of 88, it escapes me.
