I agree. I'm not up on all the Washington dealings, but this seems a rather ballsy, in-your-face, even blackmail-ish political move. One might even characterize it as DESPERATE. I'm used to hearing of more subtlety.

My gut says the few $billion this "potential" cancelled order may cost Boeing won't register outside of the states of Illinois and Washington. Nowadays, with the hundreds of $billions and $trillions routinely thrown around, a $5-6 billion deal will hardly warrant a pepper sneeze.

You are right. With all the management beatings, I still ask the AOC coffee lady if I am required to take a jug.

What am I missing here?
This seems like a rather ignorant/impotent move by FDX.

They couldn't have picked a worse White House admin to threaten Union Labor.
They couldn't have picked a worse economic time to say they are "threatening" not to buy some airplanes when everyone knows they don't appear to need or maybe even want any (volume down/furlough threats).

I'm am no expert--what do they think they can get out of this? This House at this time may even try to force them to buy the aircraft if they try to back out of a deal. You know--"save the Boeing jobs" angle.

We hate it when he does it to us, but it's fun watching him do it to everybody else.

So you would rather see Congress cave in to pressure from the Teamsters. I'll take Fred over a bunch of union criminals any day of the week. I'm not against our mechanics organizing; they just need to do it on a national level (and preferably with anyone other than the Teamsters.) Yes I was a teamster, my brother is still a teamster, so I can call the crooks "crooks" if I want to.

Big deal, the 777s will go to another airline, and the US government might the award the postal contract and the military lift to other companies too. I think Fred Smith will regret this game of chicken.

One thing is certain...

Fred either has HUGE balls or has lost his mind. Even with a so-called pro-labor W.H. however, I wouldn't be shocked to see him prevail as this new administration (or it's tele-prompter ) seems little more than talk in more and more ways.

Not sure what there is to gain by this threat. Pretty sure other airlines will line up to buy these planes. Wouldn't there be a pretty hefty penalty to cancel these orders??

Guess the "brain trust" really hates unions.....
