UPS/Menlo/SCS
Haven't been able to verify this completely yet, but it looks like all you guys working for CAT, Ryan, etc may still be flying our freight around for the foreseeable future. Learned through our union that UPS is considering our heavy freight division to be part of SCS and not covered under our scope rules. Not a done deal, but it appears we won't be adding on as much flying as we originally thought. YMMV

It would be nice to hear directly from the union that says they are aware of this, they are working on it, new scope language covers this, etc. Seems that UPS has been working their angle in how to interpret this whole Menlo thing - I hope we have done the same, not just saying it is contractual. I've been trying to understand the audio broadcast of the scope roundtable as well as digesting things from the B & G. There are some very interesting interpretations out there. Makes one wonder...

The UPS company mascot, Browntail, must be disapointed about contracters flying freight from KDAY. On a serious note however was there an issue with UPS flying hazmat? Is that part of the equation?

Not from DAY
They won't be flying the Menlo stuff from Dayton, but SDF. The company is building a huge freight facility, (supposed to be bigger than the Emery hub), adjacent to the main part of the Worker's Paradise. It will be difficult to see all the contractors loading our freight on our ramp, but probably no harder than it was for them to see the DAY hub close. Sure hope the union has an ace up their sleeve on this one. I'd say my individual participation in the fuel savings program just ended.

I wish you were right!
According to the toads that speak to the CLW and to Art Luby, that whole new heavy freight complex comes under the control of SCS. Luby has further said that we cannot be guaranteed the SCS flying. I don't see how the contract can allow it, but our scope expert basically has said we can't demand the flying that SCS generates, including Menlo once it is fully integrated into SCS. Sucks, but that's what the experts are saying. That said, I believe we should still go after every bit of the SCS flying, since they are a subsidiary of the parent UPS.

I am in possession of an email from B.T. the union attorney and he talked to T.C. the companies main attorney. T.C. said that the cargo planning guy misspoke and they would be releasing a statement to confirm this, and the IPA will be flying that cargo. He said it may take a day or two it has to go through labor.
