FDX - Retirement incentives are possible

Delta may offer retirement deal to cut pilot staffing | ajc.com

Pilot Early Retirement Package has been presented to the union folks by management at my present employer.

After NC review the package will be presented to the MEC for vote, or further negotiation until a fair and acceptable program is tweaked.

The MEC chairman has stated , in writing, that there would be NO quid pro quo with the company for the PERP initiative.

Maybe it would be helpful for the FDX NC chair to give the Dalpa NC chair a call...

Regards

The killer is that our retirement is so much better than the pax airlines. FedEx would have to offer much more than Delta to get guys out the door.

What number do you think would get a guy give up his $300,000 dollar a year job? Oh yea he's still getting his Bfund, multiplier, contributing to his 401K, and getting most of his insurance paid. Not to mention getting away from his 58 year old menopausal wife! And, start living on $130,000 and triple his insurance each month.

Really pick a number then multiply that by the number of pilots you'd like to see go and that number is why FedEx will never offer a package to any of us.

Sure they can offer something like the pax guys and maybe a very small number might take it, but not enough to help our staffing woes. JMHO

Big D is targeting 300-500 senior guys......the NW folks kept their frozen A-plan after the merger, and those are the guys who seem to be the most interested in a PERP......I belive a number will go if the numbers are right.

I never thought I would say this, but after living with PBS for a year, it offers a number of solutions to overmanning. It stops the huge disparity of carryover, and moderates pay differences. It splits carryover trips for pay purposes between in/out months, and limits pay hours for each month.

Cap and bank gives crewmembers the ability to even out their pay , monh to month. It favors seniority for line construction with infinite choices.

It would take care of most of the excess manning.

CONS:
Junior guys fly weekends and holidays
No more $400k pay for ultra-senior
No line purity
tail swaps
different crew frequently ( each pairing)
Gives the company flexibility in exchange for ????

I'm sure there are many more issues, but it might be worth a re-look at contract time.

Regards

That's not the issue. FDX management needs to talk with DAL management. The NC tried hard to get management to review this option.

PBS is only as good as the system form and agreed parameters for it. You touched on some.

But FDX's system form does not fit so well. One frequency into a city ties the hands of PBS so it becomes an exercise in ever tightening parameters to gain efficiency. Your old employer has changed since you left. Mook's legacy is here and management really likes it this time. Every stone is being turned over for efficiency. I don't think PBS would add one iota to a pilot's quality of life here. It simply does not fit into the equation.

Love you man, but no. Hell no. I don't want my pay "evened out'. If I want to work like crazy 3 months and take the 4th off...I can. Where else in the world do you get that kind of flexibility?

FDXLAG 05-09-2009 09:22 AM

It does require PBS to do any of the "positives" cited by fedelta.

No disrespect intended, but can you work like hell three months and take the fourth one off...NOW ?

What got my panties in a bunch was a MD11 Captains' wife telling me last week that she had found her hubby a nice trip to Germany to fly...while he was on soft vacation days.........seems a bit unfair and counterproductive if I understand the current purple reduced blg/displacement issues.

Maybe actually investigating the nuances of PBS would be better than a blanket "hell no"

BG...not a PBS apologist

FedElta, You've been here and know how FedEx operates - all the nuances and benefits of PBS would never be agreed to by management. They want it but only if it is done their way!
