Sounds like they nailed everybody, no matter where you may actually live if you are based in SDF, fear not, the state is a far better judge of the best use of your earnings:

Explanation of Occupational Taxes: The Louisville Metro Revenue Commission (hereinafter referred to as the “Revenue
Commission”) collects Occupational License Fees/Taxes (hereinafter referred to as “Occupational Taxes”) on all income
resulting from transacting business within Louisville Metro, Kentucky. There is no minimum earned income amount
before you are liable for filing a tax return. The occupational tax is imposed upon the privilege of engaging in a business,
profession, occupation, or trade within Louisville Metro, Kentucky, regardless of the legal residence of the person so
engaged. Louisville Metro includes the area within the boundaries of Jefferson County, Kentucky. The current rate for
Occupational Taxes totals 2.2% (.0220). This total is distributed as follows: 1.25% (.0125) to Louisville Metro Government;
.2% (.0020) to Transit Authority of River City (TARC); and .75% (.0075) to the Louisville or Anchorage Public School Boards.
The occupational license tax rate is applicable to the “net profits” of business entities, independent contractors and selfemployed
individuals, and to the gross employee compensation of employed individuals. Individuals who reside outside
Louisville Metro, Kentucky, are exempt from the School Board tax.

I wholeheartedly agree Jungle. I'm dismayed at the reluctance of some posters to pay their fair share to help those less fortunate. Some of those who will benefit from this revenue no doubt lost their jobs or have fallen on hard times. I'm shocked so few feel the fraternal calling to help their brothers in need. After all, we're all brothers united in the same struggle to survive and prosper, aren't we?

I got it before I finished the first sentence...a rather clumsy, heavy-handed use of sarcasm in my opinion...but I understand where it's coming from having watched the give-and-take between him and the rest of the cast for the past few weeks. The analogy is loose as best anyway, since none of us outsiders are unionized with our fellow Jeff-Co residents...;)

Perhaps we could impose a tax on JeffCo for the privelege of allowing them to tax out of state citizens.

Occupational taxes have been struck down by many courts.

On the UPS Flight Ops website, there is a detailed memo about the tax.

The very first sentence states "crewmembers living in the State of Kentucky will need to be in compliance with the Jefferson County........."

Based on the memo I assume this whole thing is not applicable to out-of-state folks?

I emailed payroll regarding out of state folks. The reply:

"You are correct, your wages will not be taxed for the Jefferson County Occupational Tax and you do not have to submit the Pass-Thru Form."

Some confusion between JeffCO, payroll and Fltops.

Ops:
Beginning with Pay Period Six (pay dates 5/24/2009 – 6/20/2009 check date 6/8/2009) crewmembers domiciled in
Louisville will need to be in compliance with the Jefferson County Occupational Tax law. All employees working
in Jefferson County are subject to the Jefferson County Occupational tax on 100% of their gross wages. All wages
will be taxed at one of two rates, County resident (based on zip+4) 2.20%, Non-County resident 1.45%.

Jeffco: profession, occupation, or trade within Louisville Metro, Kentucky, regardless of the legal residence of the person so
engaged.

Not the memo I'm reading from the Flt OPs website.

Flt Ops, and the payroll email reply are saying the same thing. Jefferson County, on the other hand, can kiss my Pennsylvanian ass, and that of all the federal documentation that has struck down local occupation taxes.

So the guys that drive in from Indiana don't pay this tax but Oldham county residents do?...Yeah right...
