FDX Block 3 Update

On a final note, the MEC at its April meeting started discussions on the continued viability of the management-built bid packs and the concern that is mounting within the MEC as to the safety and quality of these bid packs. The discussions centered around whether there might be a point in the future where PSIT reengagement in the line-building process is warranted even if the company is still directing lines to be built below the minimum bid period guarantee of 68/85CH. An important position that was voiced was that our PSIT can not only positively impact the quality of the lines now being built by the company but can, more importantly, positively affect the safety of these lines. This was balanced with the concern that our reentry into the line-building process would be complicit with the company’s application of 4.A.2.b or that the crew force will view it as such. I believe that anything the PSIT can do to increase the safety of our lines as well as improve their quality is a step we should take. Please contact me with your views on this issue.
Absolutely not! We should not be any part of a direct violation (improper implementation of 4.A.2.b.) to our collectively bargained agreement. Schedule safety can be easily addressed by exercising our contractual rights under 12.A.9. Fatigue. Now is the time to draw the line on the assault of our contract. We are professionals - let's act like it.

"I believe that anything the PSIT can do to increase the safety of our lines as well as improve their quality is a step we should take. Please contact me with your views on this issue."

I cannot believe a block rep would take this position! So ALPA is just going to "throw in the towel" like we have done on just about everything else lately? If the pairing is not safe call in fatigue when you are and don't fly it. Why you get paid the big bucks as a captain.

I wish I could believe that this will happen, however I know it will not. We have to many pilots that try to get the job done no matter what the circumstance. Fatigue? What is that, I don't want to upset the apple cart!!

I have strong feelings that the biggest threat we face on the next 5-10 years is fatigue/optimization (certainly related, maybe the same thing?). Our union MUST take a strong stand on fatigue issues.

Did you notice the fatigue issue in today's news concerning the Buffalo crash (it seems the f/o caught a j/s in from the west coast before beginning her trip, she was living with her parents because she was only earning $16,000/yr)?

Update: It seems the f/o took the FedEx redeye SEA-MEM-EWR to get to work ... she also had a second job at a copy shop (I expect for extra income?).

That statement, literally, makes me sick.

You have a problem with my viewpoint?? Then write or call me directly and I'll discuss why I take this position vice posting here. I asked for input from my block and nothing has entered my mailbox. Even if you're not, I'll field any question or comment.

FR8Hauler 05-14-2009 08:48 AM

Micro I am not in your block but check your inbox here. My block rep probably gets tired of hearing from me...

Micro 05-14-2009 09:08 PM

I have and you have a response in your mailbox. As I've said, if anyone has a question WHY I've taken the stance I have, contact me. Get ALL the info you can gather and make your decision. As the last line of the original quote says:

"Please contact me with your views on this issue. ".

ONLY one has. You (I include everyone who posts here as "you") want a voice in your union, you need to contact your reps vice just b!tch here (as I do as well at times:cool:)

seefive 05-16-2009 10:08 AM

So Micro......you're saying that if enough people voice their opinion in opposition to yours (of course they have to do it directly to your inbox) you will change your position on this?
Whether it's "*****ing" here or to your inbox, it's all the same.

LivingInMEM 05-16-2009 10:48 AM

No, it's not really the same. Faceless posting on the boards can sometimes more closely resemble mob rule than interaction with your union reps.

The board is mean to get the discussion in the open and get people involved, the direct e-mail or contact is how to contact the union reps.
