Default FDX ~ J/S'ing into a trip and duty period...

Pardon me for my ignorance but I've been based in LA the last 5 years and have forgotten the 'rules' for jumpseating to MEM and then starting a trip. I am transferring bases starting with the June bid period.

Sec 26.J.....I know the 'no harm, no foul' rule and, if you company j/s into MEM, the need to be there 1.5 hours before show time and total duty can not exceed 13:30.

Is there anything else? Any other gotcha's out there? I would prefer not to meet my new ACP the hard way

Thanks,

PT

Just make sure you're wearing your tie.

Thanks Haz ~ now back to the question at hand...

If I am reading and interpreting this correctly there is absolutely NO way to jumpseat to MEM (on a company j/s) and then operate and international leg...is that correct?

What about RFO trips or trips with augmented crews?

You are correct. Not even if there is an RFO (or two). Stick to the lower 48, P.R., and Mexico.

They don't want you to j/s into reserve either.

Where does it say that? Reserve periods are for only 12 hours?

But you can get a NRT trip on Reserve.

It was in some FCIF/O Gram/ JL diatribe. It basically said you need to be ready for any assignment on Reserve.

That has always been the rule since I've been here on property the last 8 years. Your are NOT cover by the 'no harm, no foul' clause jumpseating into a reserve period.

And, referencing another thread, you have to be booked as staging, not business.

there are many things the company wants, doesn't mean that I blindly follow what the company wants.

J/S show time and trip duration is not considered part of your duty day. The company explicitly says that if it is ever considered part of the duty day, the no harm/no foul contract provision goes away 26.J.2.e (and, the duty time provision might change given the reports out of the Colgan mishap)

I am required to arrive sufficiently rested for my duty period. The person responsible for determining that is me, not the company, not "O". I am the only person capable of determining the best way to accomplish that in specific situations.
Some situations, might jump into work 14-18 hours prior to show. Some I do not. On the rare occasions that I sit B reserve, I tend to sleep in my own bed and take the morning J/S. Long duty day trips, sometimes I nap in my own bed and take the evening J/S in, followed by another nap in a recliner prior to show.....and, sometimes I hop in earlier with the plan of going to bed earlier; but, seems as if I wind up with about the same amount of rest prior to show since the crashpad isn't as comfortable or familiar as my own bed.

When I jump into a reserve period, or, the J/S to scheduled end of trip exceeds 13:30, I am aware that the no harm no foul rule doesn't apply if my J/S flight doesn't make it to Memphis. Doesn't mean that I can't do it. Nor does it mean that I'm not going to notify CRS of any delays etc so they can plan properly.

Not communicating with CRS to be a good guy, but, to keep from dicking my fellow crew member when CRS starts looking for me at show time
