UPS deliveries

With the DC-8 retirements and the recent announcements regarding staffing numbers, is the plan still to bring in the B767's? I assume they were meant as a natural replacement for the DC8, but with the economy??? Could these aircraft soften the blow on the numbers of pilot's and money UPS will need to "take care" of? I haven't seen anything to say otherwise..

Already factored in to the mix. My only concern is that the company uses them as a hostage for concessions, as they are now out of other cards to play.

When dealing with these thugs, it's always wise to assume worst case when it comes to their game plan. They are incredibly bone-headed in the day to day running of an airline but incredibly crafty in managing money, exerting political influence and playing labor.

Was told the other day that after the first 3 deliveries, the rest could be delayed or sent straight to the desert. Would not count on seeing all 29 here anytime soon.

We are not using all the planes we currently have. Unless the economy and loads pick up those planes are not coming or will be parked in the desert for a while.

Existing asset utilization is way up in the form of A300's flying double and triple compared to previous use. The question is not just the loads returning, but how the existing fleet will be used. We may need the 767s because there are effectively few A300s to use.

It is also my understanding that the 767s are hard orders and can not be cancelled. UPS could send them to the desert, but it would seem more likely to retire the oldest planes left in the fleet, which are the 757s. But we need the 757s in the domestic route structure and placing the 767s on those routes doesn't make sense.

Well it's been done before, brand new aircraft sent to the desert for a year, also a nasty rumor is to send the oldest 10 757's north to the airline that moves our stuff north of the border, ACE, they got 4 of our old 727-200's.
So there are all kinds of alternatives. Just keep talking smack and we'll all be contractors.
Bow Wow

How many cans does a 757 hold vs a 767?
