Not sure why that would be a factor or are you just speculating?

The letter that FedEx is requiring you to sign says that you are still a "MEM based" pilot flying assignments out of CDG. Furthermore, you have a US ATP certificate, opposed to the European equivalent, which I believe classifies you under US rules allowing you to fly past 60...even though you are living in CDG.

On a side note... during my layover in Penang last weekend I struck up a conversation with a couple from Sydney and they were telling me that there is legislation being voted on soon by the Australian government that is raising the retirement age for pilots their to age 67...and it's going to pass!!! :(

Pure speculation. Much like 99% of what's posted on this forum.

You are not just going to be living in CDG. I think the French believe you're domiciled there. A pilot signing a letter with FDX stating that he's still based in MEM didn't mean he wouldn't have to pay French taxes on his salary.

But, I'm no lawyer. Thank God. It's just a guess.

And with the BARACK OBAMA printing press ramped up at warp speed don't come crying back hear next year when the USD is worth .50 EUROs complaining that that your housing allowance isn't covering a fraction of your rent!

Pretty optimistic on the exchange rate, eh? ;)

Anyone think this delay is related to the pending RLA legislation in congress?

fedupbusdriver 06-12-2009 05:59 PM

It is going too senior. The company needs to cut some of the benefits for the FDA so that they can just barely fill it......

Sounds like you're making a case for buying an apartment, then selling it 3 years down the road for $2+ =1 euro (or something similar). Might make 30-40% on just the exchange rate even if the apartment doesn't appreciate. Also, doesn't uncle Fred kick in $1300 per month if you buy ($15,600 per year)? Might be some money to be made , if you're prediction is accurate (which I agree with) and you're willing to roll the bones. Didn't some wag once talk about having his (or his father-in-law's -I can't remember) LLC buy an apartment and then he leases it from his LCC to capture the whole $2700 per month. I guess if the LOA doen't say you can't do it......you can.

I agree with Busboy.

I've always found it humorous for us/the union/mgt to believe that FDX can detect what labor laws apply to CDG-based pilots.

Ultimately, the French will determine that ----- isn't that what we would expect our gov't to do for foreign workers working/living in the US??
