Did it last summer (NOQ has been a threat for some time for junior ANC11Fs). It is a full profile, and I believe a jeopardy event. That said, like any sim, it's a great deal dependent on who's giving you the sim.

Good news for FedEx ground in Chicago. But the economic recovery, when it arrives, will likely affect different divisions unequally.

FedEx Ground Celebrates Opening of New Chicago Distribution Hub - Yahoo! Finance

The network enhancements have resulted in accelerating ground service delivery by one day or more in more than half of the United States. FedEx Ground delivers more than 50 percent of packages in two days or fewer and more than 80 percent of packages in three days or fewer. Additionally, average daily package volumes have increased by more than 50 percent from 2.1 million in 2003 to more than 3.4 million today.

I wish Express still carried some of what has gone to ground....

Thanks in advance for your help.
I would have started a new thread, but figured this wasn't interesting enough to warrant it.

Airbus: 3 & 3 with X-winds on a couple, CAT III and a V1 cut to a landing.

Anytime you get in the box, if you are a buffoon you are going to be in jeopardy. Otherwise, there is plenty of time in there to get up to speed.

I'm just curious, but why do you need a V1 cut and a Cat III to maintain landing currency? Typical cobra pit-esque response from our training department? More FAA bulls--t? If you only need 3 & 3, you should just be able to get 3 & 3. Seems like punishment, which around here doesn't surprise me.

???

It was explained to me that if you didn't fly enough to stay current, that they thought you needed a little more "review" in the sim that just a 3 and 3. Said something about an event that happened at UAL with an f/o that was always getting his 3 and 3 in the sim, and things went downhill fast when something went wrong on the plane one day.

I dunno, just passing along the rumor.

Heard a similar explanation. Years ago a UAL 747-400 F/O almost crashed into a hill top tower departing SFO after an engine failure. Or it could be said "the Captain allowed him to fly the plane almost into a hilltop".

Bottom line: It is the Captain's responsibility.

How about this:

FAR Part § 121.439: Pilot qualification: Recent experience -- FAA FARS, 14 CFR

A paid trip to the sim to maintain currency and only do three take-offs and three landings? Why? If you're that close to going non-current, you can probably use the extra training. No one is out to get anyone, it's just common sense.

Re: The UAL 747-400 F/O story.

True. I got to see a re-enactment video using the CVR transcript and testimony from all players during recurrent while at UAL. Ugly. The EO SID to the west follows a radial to a saddle in the hills. They didn't follow the radial and skimmed some high end real estate up on the bay area hills.

This was when they were dropping trips with pay, providing positive space first class DH to DEN and getting you 3/3 in 20 minutes.

Doesn't seem like a V1 cut, xw landings and a few cats and dogs living together is asking too much if your currency is stretched thin, IMO. If you can't bring game to the sim or the line check you always drop, what makes you think you'll have it when you need it? Just sayin'

golfandfly 07-08-2009 06:04 PM

I don't mind flying any of these maneuvers, but if it a checking event, I would rather just do the 3 and 3. Most of us have been fortunate on checkrides or we probably wouldn't be here, but I don't volunteer them. Oh well, I guess I'll have to do one of these pretty soon anyway. Does anyone know who I call to set one of these things up?
