ABX AIR furloughs AGAIN!!!!
Well they are at it again.... jul 1 abx will furlough 13 crew members...its no surprise I guess....the DC-8 is so outdated nobody can afford to use them...this little airline continues to get smaller and smaller....I guess the fedex and ups guys were right, DHL poses no threat. After 5 1/2 years my pipe dream of getting recalled any time soon has just been flushed. This should dispell any rumors of ABX Air hiring. Looks like I'm off thread a little, guess I'm a little ****ed....anyway, this is not a rumor.

sorry to hear the news. What is going on over there right now as far as growth and expansion? Those yellow DHL ads have been everywhere, I figured you all were growing like us and big brown. Freight is in a growth mode, so it's strange to see the furloughs coming.

after the last 5 years nothing seems strange to me however I do see your point....its so hard to get good info and management will not tell you the truth so your guess is as good as mine....it seems to me that abx is just a puppet....dhl gives and takes away at will, some days we pick up cities and some days they take away cities...we are making money however dhl is losing money in the us.....it seems we stepped on ourselves during the transition and have yet to recover....the germans are not used to losing money so they might be on the nervous side....bottom line is I dont know what the h_ _ _ they are doing. I dont know how fedex and ups can make money and dhl continues to lose....Airborne express was making money before the buyout (not a lot of money but still) so I dont get it either.
Sorry ADMIN for using the wrong word in my first post.

To compete with UPS and FEDEX , DHL will have to build a huge infrastructure in this country. From what I have seen they are using subcontractors for flying, vehicles and facilities. This can be very expensive, and really doesn't build the structure for DHL.
Both FEDEX and UPS were in Europe and other markets a long time before the capital expeditures paid off. All of these factors act as barriers to entry for package delivery companies and the startup costs limit competition.
