Any ANC Polar info would be a great help trying to catch a jumpseat. Thanks.

You have two options, meet the crew at the Downtown Marriott,, or at operations, over by where Northwest cargo parks. Pickup is two hours before T/O. Looks like a full boat for you, with three Atlas DHer's, and maybe a Polar DHer as well onboard. If your initials are CH, your listed.

How many seats are usually available? And the likelihood of getting bumped by them repositioning crew?
Polar runs it with a three man crew, so five seats available. Atlas/Polar use the seats A LOT. Many times three or four DHer's. We call it the Polar Express. It's a very cheap way to get folks to that part of the world.

That would be me Thanks Whale for the info...742Dash was a big help as well. Looking forward to giving "Polar Express" a try!

Update: Spoke too soon...just got bumped But thanks for all the info, I'll give it another try later as I'll have plenty of opportunities traveling from ANC to HKG and back. Thanks again

Like Whale said: If you're initials are CH, you're back on & in the #7 hole right now. 3 operating, 2 DH Polar, 1 Atlas (maybe), & 1 C.H. One thing to keep in mind is that the DH's are ALWAYS in a state of flux. Scheduling is like a Chinese fire drill at all times & they use the empty seats instead of buying tickets (like they should). Misconnects happen, rescheduling is a way of life, only your "footprint" is sacred (at Polar anyway). Keep in touch with the lady in NY via e-mail or call ANC OPS if you have the number. Hell, PM me & I will try to help ya out.

Polar's schedules are at the top right of their website

The only way you'll find out what the schedule is, is if you know a crew member or fill out the OAL request form.
For Australian schedules on Atlas/Polar you can go to the schedule section of

Qantas Freight homepage

You have to use some trial and error on this one, such as using different departure gateways. Try TOL, JFK, ORD, DFW, LAX, and HNL to SYD. But after playing around with this for a few minutes, you can get an idea of what the schedules are. The Atlas/Polar flights are designated "Boeing 747 Freighter" ("Boeing 747-400" being the QF passenger birds), and have 7### flight numbers.

Cujo,

Being a "newbie" I need more posts for PM. If you need to, my e-mail is [email protected]. By the way, I was looking at the flight: PO 957 ANC-HKG on 12/3 1710Z. The flights the day prior & after are open if you need it. Same times.

Happy Holidays,
Polaroid

Subin30,
sometimes they park on the ramp next to FedEx, that was supposed to be the "A380" ramp, sometimes at the cargo ramp by the Int'l term. Either way, they go through the Int'l terminal when they exit. Once your out of the bld. (Int'l term)
it's a left turn and a 15-20min walk. Although, in snow I'd take a cab... I don't know if they have shuttle transpo any more?

Employee Shuttle bus(free)..runs from terminal to fedex, UPS and NW. Call them to pick you up. 907-677-1074 907-529-2577 907-440-7203. One of these will work. They pick up from the old north terminal, just outside of customs.

Default ANC shuttle update

Actually, the shuttle will pick you up at either pax terminal or any of the cargo parking lots. Furthermore, they have ended their 24 hour coverage and will do the run only between 6 am and 2 am. Used to run on a schedule, now you have to call them. Normal response time is from 10-20 minutes. Sometimes they will come in the normal airport shuttle bus, sometimes in a gray pax van with a sign in the front window. Terminal pickup is at the same location that the parking lot shuttle uses.
