Yes, most of them are content with their job but my friend said given a choice 101% of them would come over to FDX whether they could sleep home every night or not.
Talked to feeder guy in PDX one day and asked him if he was applying with FedEx. Said he was too busy to get that last 3 1/2 years of college to meet the qualifications. So even though 101% might come over, it would be interesting to know what % of the feeder pilots meets the minimum stated requirements. |

And, given the choice, 101% of us would be a Playboy photographer. However, few, if any, of us meet the qualifications. ( One qual is not saying "thank you lord" every time the centerfold walks in the room)

You took my reply out of context. I was replying to someone who said it's quite possible many feeder pilots do not apply with FDX because they're happy being home every night.
As for AA and their "feeder" outfit American Eagle, it used to be that not only was it "very difficult" for a AE guy to get over to the AA seniority list, it was impossible, because American didn't allow it. That sort of makes sense from the corporate perspective, because they would not only lose the services of the AE guy going to AA, but they would also have to train a new AE guy to take his place. In other words, two training cycles instead of only one (if they just hired a new guy to fill an AA spot.) JJ |

OK, sorry. I tend to agree with JJ on this though. Assuming your friend doesn't speak for all 101% of the feeder guys coast to coast, commuting to Memphis to fly sideways for an undetermined amount of time in the Jurassic Jet probably doesn't appeal to some of these single seat, single engine guys. And the Memphis necktie police....that might really get them! |
Hmmm...I wonder how many guys have left FDX, voluntarily, to go fly a single engine turbo-prop IFR, compared to how many have left the turboprop job to come to FDX?
Just a guess...But, I'd say "0" to some other number. |

(BTW, yes, I do realize I've started the "my former service is better than your former service thang!" , but since most Jarheads can't type, their responses might be interesting. One's ready, two's ready, fights on:D:D) note: Thang is Memphibian for thing |

In my view money isn't everything but it certainly helps. A senior FDX FO probably makes more $$$ in two months than a feeder captain will in a year. Have hard time believing someone would give that up if they're given a choice. You're right, many probably don't meet the minimums - be it the pic time or 4-year college degree - but those who do I think would love to drop the left seat in a Caravan for the plumber seat on the 72. ...so let's agree to disagree on this one. |

I'd say you are 101% correct. Your point is, I suspect, that since nobody would go one way, 101% would go the other. So, since 100% of Marine pilots wouldn't transfer to the USAF if they could, then 100% of the USAF pilots would transfer to the Marines if they could. But since 0% of USAF pilots would transfer to the Marines if they could, that means 100% of the Marine pilots would........do you see the hole in your argument?

So, what do I know. |
