2) the landing created permanent sets in the fuselage and wings which exceeds tolerances.
A while back (15yrs ago) we had a Capt take over from the F/O who started a go-around. George put the airplane on the runway VERY firmly. A few days later another F/O doing a morning preflight was shining his flashlight on the fuselage and noticed some shadows. There were ripples along the fuselage. George, it seems, had broken a few stringers with his firm landing. The airplane wasn't a write off but it did go to the shop for quite a while.

(I saw the MX pix of the EVA and the Alitalia MD11 that shared the same fate as the LH Cargo)
The Alitalia was 20-30 mill to fix, today that would be a writeoff...
Cheers

You should see the pix of the typical damage of these "events" It's pretty humbling knowing everybody walked away

Perhaps I need to be even MORE blunt for Some to understand...
The crew DESTROYS the aircraft on landing... a total loss!... but it's apparently a good-enough landing that they think it's not so out of the ordinary to taxi the DESTROYED aircraft to the gate?
