FDX-Contract on iPhone?

Has anyone figured out a good way to get the contract on their iPhone so it's available for offline reading?

I was leaning towards a .pdf reader and just downloading the file, but most of the reviews I've seen say that the reader is not very good for large files.

I just wanted to see if anyone has had any luck with other solutions.

Check out FileMagnet. I haven't used it extensively but it got good reviews.

try this

I use an app named "discover". It works very well.

email or iDisk

You can simply email it as an attachment and access it that way but the best way is to use the iDisk feature if you are a subscriber to Apple's MobileMe services. Apple makes an iDisk app and anything you drag to your iDisk folder on your computer will be available to you on your iPhone....PDFs, Excel, Word, they all open up just fine.

I use an app called QuickOffice. It allows wireless uploads and you have access to MS Office files while off-line. It takes awhile to load and view large PDF files, but I have not found an app that does bookmarking on PDFs. It's a $20 app but I have found it worth it. I then downloaded a program called PDFSAM (pdfsam.org) which allows you to split large PDF files into smaller files which will load faster and is easier to scroll through. This program is free. I made a folder in QuickOffice for the FOM and then made sub-folders for each individual chapter. A little work to start, but it makes it great once done.

Thanks Speed.
I just downloaded "Discover" and had the contract on my i-phone in about 5 minutes. App is free and allows bookmarking.

I use files lite to store and read pdf files on my iphone. I carry my contract on it as a matter of fact. Saves room in my flight kit.

"Air Sharing" works great and can store up to 10 GB of files and data...ie trips and schedules, airline tickets, guides and gouges for study, and other hip pockets thiings you can't live without...

...your miles may vary...:)

Best way I've found is to download the HTML file here:

MagicWebFX Downloads

It is in help file format where you can search the contract in "help" format like clicking on help in your toolbar. You can download it for windows or mac, for use on your PC.

Then, download an app on the iphone called ichm. It is an html help file reader application. Instructions on getting the file from your computer to the iphone is included in the app. It's really easy and it works awesome!!

It is the best way to search the contract, hands down.

Let me know if you need any help.

These are all free by the way...

For WM phones run the FDX-Contract.exe file on your PC then copy all the Contract files and folders into a \Contract folder on your device or storage card. The Opera Mobile browser Opera Mobile - Download works very well. Set up a Favorites link in the browser and you're all that and a bag o' chips. Also, ymmv :)

Brilliant!!!! Now there is no excuse for not having the contract at your fingertips!!

If you already have MagicWebFX, the chm file is already on your computer. It's located (typically) in the Program Files\MagicWebFX folder and is named (uniquely) FDX-Contract2006.chm. Just Browse to that location and start the upload.

Alternatively:
Windows users: can download the FDX-Contract.exe file and extract it and upload the chm file.
Mac users: should follow the small link to the Mac page to download the chm file packed in a zip file.

Looks like I need to update the website with this great new tidbit. :D

Shameless plug: MagicWebFX is Your Pilot Website Secretary. Many great features. Second trial periods are available via email. And it works within the current Bot limitations.

Good Reader from goodiware handles large .pdf files well.

Thanks everybody for all the recommendations. I looked at a few, and in my opinion, the ichm app is the way to go. Thanks PurpleFreight.

Yeah, it is money. I just hope the next contract is put into the same format. That is the only way that I look at it...

FlybyKnite 10-23-2009 07:23 PM

PF, thanks for word on the ichm app - I was looking at the pdf solution too but would rather read my hyperlinked version. Hyperlinks are the only way to effectively read the contract and easily see all the cross-references.

I was happy to do it for Contract2006 as a fraternal contribution, and I'll do it again for the next contract too. I just need the MEC to provide me the word documents to make the conversion to the chm format.

Just did the ichm app and downloaded the contract. Awesome!! So simple a caveman can do it. I like the format on the iPhone, it is very easy to navigate. Thanks to all who made it happen!

BTW, make sure you link to the "index.html" file; NOT the .htm one

FDX ALPA Contract 2011 Available

Resurrecting this thread to announce that the 2011 version of the FDX ALPA Contract can be downloaded at MagicWebFX.net.

Just like the 2006 version, this one is a compiled HTML file that features embedded hyperlinks for all the paragraph references. New in this version: a "scales-like" marker to indicate sections that are affected by administrative rulings/settlements (just like on p.f.c.).

Always have the current contract at hand. There is a Tutorial on the website to help you put it on your smart phone and tablet as well as your computer.

kronan 08-18-2012 08:14 AM

Highly recommend having it available to refresh your memory. CRS Will screw you if they let them. Their whole goal is moving the freight and more than once I've heard something along the lines of "Oh, I didn't know that was against the contract" after calling them on it. Funny thing is they always believe me when i give them a paragraph. For some reason they don't seem to bother taking the time to look for it but just "trust" me then.....funny how they don't seem to have the same level of trust when I first tell them something's non-contractual
