Global Entry

I was clearing customs in DFW the other day and noticed a kiosk (with no line) that looked like an expedited entry program. It was called Global Entry and the less than helpful worker there said "go online". Has anyone used this and is it any good? I looked online and it seems to be a government agency and is associated with a program for expedited entry through the Netherlands also, which might be good. There is a fee to pay ($100) and an appointment with someone if the application is approved.

It's a good deal if you do a lot of international flying. Costs $100 for 5 years access. Fill out initial app online. If approved, then you do some more online stuff. Last part is a personal interview where they put your biometrics into the system.

All you have to do then is input your passport and fingerprints into the kiosk, follow instructions, and off you go.

One thing to keep in mind is that it usually takes the same amount of time at the kiosk that a passport agent takes to clear three people. I fill out a crew dec, so if there is a line of less than three people I use the crew dec. More than three people? Use the kiosk. Smile and wave at the cat rancher who is 15 deep behind the AF crew and is giving you the evil eye because you will make your commuter flight before she makes it home to the cats.
