What did you think of this? Travolta flies 12,000 pounds of supplies to Haiti in his 707? What a hero.... That is barely 2 positions on any real cargo plane. I'll bet he only loaded the belly positions and didn't put anything topside. Wouldn't want to scuff up the leather seats with relief supplies. What a waste.

At least he did something!!!

he also had another plane with him full of doctors...most of the supplies were donated by florida hospitals...he also sat on the ramp and guarded all the supplies to make sure each doctor got exactly what he needed and when he needed it...his little operation saved many lives...u say what a waste?..:rolleyes:

At least he is putting his money where his mouth is unlike the other Hollywood knuckleheads. Not a Travolta fan, think he is a freak, but good on him for doing this.

Travolta had the resources and was able to get the people to go help. Good for him. Here in ATL a number of guys who owned PC-12s also took people and meds down. Are they also a waste?

Let me get this straight: He's a jerk because he didn't load up his multi-million dollar collectors item as full of boxes (possibly damaging the interior in the process) as he possibly could? 12,000 pounds isn't exactly tiny. It's a fully restored 707, not an Antonov.

My girlfriend works with a girl who got to go to go on that flight. And I saw pictures of inside that 707. It has master leather seats and mutliple lazy boy configurations. Not really a airplane fit to store mutiple boxes and loads of cargo.

And yes he had a load of doctors and others that are devoting there time to help those in need.

And I saw video of him unloading the cargo himself and passing it along to others doing what any good human being would do in a time like this. Not some rich Hollywood actor. But someone who actaully looks like they care enough to lend a hand.

So in my hummble opinion this was NOT a waste in any way shape or form.

Travolta Brings Food, Aid and Scientology to Haiti | PopEater.com

John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston are lending a hand to the earthquake victims in Haiti, as the actor flew his own jet into the ravaged country equipped with relief supplies, doctors and a handful of Scientology ministers aimed at helping. According to the Associated Press, Travolta and wife Kelly Preston flew from 4 tons of military food rations and medical supplies from Florida to Haiti and are leaving shortly ... but the doctors and Scientology ministers are staying.

"I want to thank Qantas Airlines and (its chief executive) Alan Joyce. Alan is allowing me to fly the Boeing 707 that's sitting in the backyard, fill it with supplies, fill it with doctors, fill it with volunteer ministers, and take it down to Haiti on Monday - so thank you, thank you, thank you," Travolta said about his trip.

This is Travolta's second relief effort to Haiti, having flown in supplies last week as well. On January 18, Travolta told the press: "I have arranged for a plane to take down some volunteer ministers and some supplies and some medics. I hope that inspires others as well. It's needed."

While the Travolta's relief efforts are surely appreciated, it's the presence of the Scientology ministers that has irked some, as the Church of Scientology has been accused of capitalizing on tragedies in the past.

Gawker.com, who have a long history of criticizing Scientology and its celebrity followers, summarizes that "anywhere people are suffering, Scientology's yellow-shirted 'volunteer ministers' can be found lurking near news cameras and claiming to help people with their bull---- technology. They performed 'purification rundowns' on recovery workers sifting through the ruins of the World Trade Center after 9/11, administered 'touch assists' to victims of the tsunami, distributed literature after the Virginia Tech shooting, and are on the ground in Haiti right now warning the starving, dehydrated populace about the dangers of psychiatry."

I am not a scientologist, but somebody once told me they simply try and not take medicine if they do not have to. ie.. if you get a headache do not run for the medicine cabinet; relax yourself and see if they headache goes away on its own 1st.

this is ALL i know/ heard about scientology, so please don't anyone yell if I am wrong.

Not Commenting on the Travolta flight, Although I do wonder how he got permission to fly in there when I hear they are spinning Military relief flights, but the Scientology Mentions merit the posting of this clip.

Ha! I just wanted to thank mr Travolta before this gets locked. Mr lightAttack, it takes a set to call someone out for donating time and money to a good cause, good one!

So Light Attack, are you envious that you don't own a 707, go home to Kelly Preston, with whom you would have lost your 16-year old son last year? What's your issue? Mine and my wife's donations to Red Cross, AmeriCare, and Doctors Without Borders don't even compare to Travolta's.

Fine, but if you owned a transport, would you wear a uniform? With epaulets? C'mon....

On the plus side, evidently, even with all his success, he wants to be us :)

Sorry if my cynicism offends all you "trusting" souls. My point is that with a resource as large as a 707, two to three positions of MREs seems small and raises questions as to the purpose of the flight, when airspace and parking space at Port au Prince is tight.

Food is food, but was that really an efficient use of resources if bringing aid to quake victims was the intent?

No, I don't own a 707, but if I did, and was that wealthy, I'd be flying a lot more down there. And I wouldn't fill my plane with "ministers."

So, pretend you owned an Airplane configured for passenger travel, I believe his seats about 45, w/ no room for cargo on the main deck. You are saying you would fill the passenger area w/ freight? How would you begin to secure it? Or, would you just put it in and hope for the best.
So, he could only fit 2 pallets worth of freight in his bellies. What more do you want from the guy?

When I was down yonder in Hispaniola, you basically just needed to validate you were bringing supplies (vice people), on an IFR plan and you got a slot time (and had to stick to it +/-20min or something), etc... about three weeks ago it wasn't too hard for civilians to get in provided they were bringing something useful.. I don't know how/if it's changed.

A lot of people were flying fleets of charted aircraft down there.. so JT wasn't the only one dishin out some dough... but I'm sure the Haitian people are grateful (hopefully) either way....

One mil flight I heard was a Canadian C-130 that orbited around couldn't land... had to go back to Provo... they had a bunch of supplies and doctors on board... got called back to Montreal or something.


now... it's just about gettin those nice supplies distributed.....
