Manfred and Cologne G/T Contract
#3
I'm really sorry to hear that. He's taken REALLY good care of us for many years. He was one of the few that DESERVED to get that contract but we all know that FDX is a "cheapest bidder" consumer!*?

Well..........we........if we can get our collective $hit together can fix this. Just file a GT deficiency report every time (there is always somthing) and at the end reference how this never happens w/Manfred. The GT folks have tried to oust him before. The great hue and cry from us prevented that.

Talked with Manfred this morning enroute to FRA... Apparently he was in a catch 22 situation, where he need airport access authorization to get the contract and he needed a contract toget the authorization... Sounds like he got screwed politically by the Cologne airport authority (where the contract winner has a large prescence) and very little consideration from FEDEX G/T folks or whoever manages that contract...

I think FedEx has more than enough oom-pah in Germany to swing the technical paperwork to Manfred's corner. We lost a grear driver in San Juan years ago- Ricky- because of higher insurance liability requirements. He never missed a pickup and would make any stops to/from the hotel as requested. I certainly hope Manfred will press this issue and get the contract. He's the best!

It would be a tragedy not to have him provide the service in Cologne as well. (especially since it is probably our next base!?)
He is the best in the system period. It is always the same, every year, some new lady in corporate reviews the contract and tries to find a cheaper one without regard to pilot reports. We end up suffering when the new service stinks, or when the new company suddenly doesn't like picking us up at 2AM. Manfred is a class act, I have never waited for him once, plus he is one of the few drivers that is easily accessible by email or phone.
We really need to do what what we can to help him out on this.

Spoke with Benjamin last night on the way to the hotel. After years of exceptional service to FedEx aircrews, Manfred was notified by a simple email about the changes to his contract. Manfred and Benjamin have provided the best transportation service in the entire system, bar none. To simply get an email after that many years of dedicated exceptional service is a disgrace.
I have been to CGN many times. The driver is different every time and there is no continuity such as we have with Manfred and Benjamin. The CGN contract is up for renewal next March. Also Lufthansa Cargo is legally contesting the FRA curfew issue so that may be resolved in the future. Some variables still in play but as of right now, 95% of Manfred's FedEx business will go away at the end of June.
