Default MD-80 cargo conversion?

Came across a few articles about converting MD80's to freighters. Found it interesting, think they could make good freight haulers?

The sticking point will be the cargo containers which will be specific to the DC-9/MD-80 series fuselage.

There are a number of DC-9s out there with cargo doors and the military C-9s also have cargo doors so it shouldn't be a big engineering leap. But MD-80s below $1mil? Wow...

I did not think that you could find any MD-80's that cheep. They must think that this would sell....But like you said the only sticking point would be the cargo containers.

Containers AND ground support equip to handle the containers.

As for cheap, Allegiant recently bought 18 MD-80s from SAS for next to nothing and figures it will take delivery, refurbish them and put them into service for LESS than $4 mil a copy. 13 will fly. 5 will be used as spares and for parts. CHEAP...

K loaders are K loaders, if it'll pick up a 88X125, it'll pick up 88X108. And most pallet dollies have extra keepers for smaller pallets built into the deck.
