Need gouge on Cambridge-Heathrow trains

What's the most convenient way to get between Cambridge and Heathrow? How's the train? any info appreciated.

Gouge? I did it...it was crowded as hell. My captain took a bus. He arrived rested and ready for a pint. I was on my feet for 1.5 hours jammed up against the door of the train hoping it wouldn't fly open at 50 mph. I arrived ready for bed.

I love trains...on the continent. They are a bit crowded for my taste in England. Maybe you can get a 1st class ticket...I'm not sure.

I took the Heathrow shuttle to Kings Cross. Total time was 2.5 hours.

Again...I'm not senior enough to hold this regularly...I'm sure we got some MD11 gurus who can steer you in the right direction.

The train is a great way to see the sights. Depending on connections, it shouldn't take you more than two and a half hours start to finish.
Take the Tube form Heathrow to King's Cross Station and transfer to British Rail to Cambridge. The 1st Class fare should be about 25 pounds if I remember correctly.
Be careful, there are TWO Cambridge stations, I think one you want is Cambridge Main(?), just ask at information.
From the station, walk straight out until the road hits the High Street and then turn right. It's about a 15 minute walk.
Cheers,
fbh

purplepilot,

There is a regular (hourly) coach service between Cambridge and Heathrow (via Stansted). It's fairly easy going and takes around 2.5 hours depending on the time of day. It drops at Heathrow Central (Terminals 1,2,3) and Terminal 5. If you need T4 you get off at Central and there is a free bus to take you around to T4.

Heres the link for times etc

The King's Cross train isn't always as crowded as Albie has said. At certain times...commute times and in the late evenings (2300-ish) it can be busy, but I've been on that particular train dozens and dozens of times when there have only been 6-9 people in the car total.

The train is about a 90 minute journey. Realize there are actually TWO different trains that alternately run on the same track. There is a "commuter express" train that runs the same route in about 60 minutes, and then the normal train that makes more stops and takes 90-ish minutes.

I've taken the bus very late at night. Easy and painless ... I recommend it.

thanks for all the good info. I'm going to look into the 1st class train. Sounds quick and easy. Thanks again.
