Why would you call the company doc over the ALPA medical folks?
I like Dr. K, but he gets his checks from FedEx and is their employee. Just courious  |
Which Doc Kendall? ALPA's or FedEx's?
|
Doc Kendall is a good guy, and you are probably required to deal with him for the company.
But I'd also call ALPA Aeromedical 303-341-4435... cover all bases, and get advice from the guys you are paying, not the company. Most likely, the info will be the same, but why risk it? |
Both groups do really great work, and neither one will release any of your personal information to anyone or any company (read FedEx) without your specific approval. That approval is done in writing, by you, before they can release your data. Although Dr. Kendall's group is paid by FedEx, they are there for you, to, in some required cases, act as a go-between between you and the FAA. I worked with them a number of years ago and they did wonderfully on my behalf.

Call ALPA First!
1. Call ALPA
ALPA's Aero-Med is there to protect your job, that is why we pay dues and they will steer you right. They also work well with the company, very well. 2. Call company Doc, as required. The company Doc does a great job, however, it should be the second call you make. |
Doctor Kendall is the medical advisor for management.
Captain Kendall is the aeromedical committee chair for FedEx ALPA. Same last names, both work medical issues, not both doctors. Doctor works for the company while the captain works for the pilots. Doctor Kendall may be a good guy but I'd be calling Captain Kendall first. |
My understanding is you have to call Dr Kendall after surgery and disability.
Am I wrong? |
You are not wrong...... we're all recommending that you call ALPA Aeromedical FIRST. They work for us, we pay for their services through dues. Talk to them, THEN call Dr. Kendall who works for FedEx.
Before I had my medical issue I thought Dr. Kendall was one stop shopping. A good Captain and mentor of mine strongly suggested that I call ALPA and I'm glad I did. |
I already talked to alpa yesterday. All that they told me was what Dr Kendalls secretary was correct. I need to finish the recovery then get my medical updated then send the paperwork to Dr Kendall then I can get back in the cockpit

Good! Have a good and speedy recovery and come back when the Dr's say you're ready.
|
Actually, when you're dealing with Dr. Kendall, after an illness, you can tell him when you feel "well enough" to go back to work. What that means is if you want or need some extra time off, he'll be more than happy to support you in that. As well, depending on what you went out for, his office can facilitate your paperwork with the FAA, to allow you to resume your flying duties as quickly as possible.

Thanks guys.

I have a serious medical issue Im dealing with and I'd like to hear from some of you that have dealt with Capt Kendall, Dr. Kendall and ALPA medical.
I've contacted all three and just want to know the best way to proceed. PM me if you could. |

Call or e-mail Captain Kendall...he will get you answers but you are going to end up dealing with Doctor Kendall to get back on line, and believe me, he is completely and unequivocally your advocate. Dr. Kendall was great to deal with and was 100% focused on my needs. The only reason to avoid Dr. Kendall is if you are somehow trying to "scam" the company...
|
Your acp will prob send you a letter directing you to contact Dr. Kendall. You can contact the alpa aeromedical doc first if you want...your choice. Dr. Kendall is completely cool with that as either his office or ALPA's aeromedical office/Doctors can coordinate getting your medical back with the FAA after you're well and ready to fly again. Both offices are very familiar with each other and work together all the time. Most folks (me included) feel a little more comfy talking to the ALPA aero folks...even though Dr. Kendall is a good guy.
