I don't know how long you have been here, or in ALPA. However, the word SCAB has a very specific, and extremely ugly meaning. You can call these extra flying types a lot of things, but only a few are SCABS, and that has to do with actions at another carrier. As an 10 SO, about 6 years ago (obviously not during negotiations,) I picked up a AVA trip that happened to go to my parent's hometown. BTW - My Block Rep at the time encouraged such flying, told me to "Soak Fred for as much as you can." The FO heard I was on AVA, and called me a SCAB for doing it. As an ALPA member for over 15 years, starting at another, now non-existent carrier, if the CAP hadn't interceded, I would have cold-cocked the SOB. Spouting rhetoric, and turning down extra flying is not all you need to do. Get educated on our union. Find out what a real SCAB is, and be careful what language you throw around.

I concur with what was said above. If one of these guys crossed a picket line and flew STRUCK work at another airline in the past, THEN they are a SCAB. ONCE a SCAB, ALWAYS a SCAB.

B-U-T . .since we have YET to have a STRIKE at the Purple Plantation . .NO ONE, who has only worked here has had the chance to cross that theoretical picket line. We KNOW who the folks are who WOULD . .but that does not make them a SCAB . . . YET!

SO. . .unless you want to have someone justifiably slap you silly for your inflammatory, slanderous rhetoric, ratchet it down a notch.

My apologies for the use of the "ugly" word...I have edited my comments.

All you guys talking about dropping trips - how are you doing that? I haven't been able to drop for 4 months - I get "insufficient reserves."

I know it may not be ideal for you, but that's probably a good sign...a sign that scheduling is having a hard time filling trips, and not having enough reserves to throw another open time trip in the mix.

We're parking jets everyday...let's keep it up!

I ran into a Capt tonight at the James Joyce who was on a week long RF2 pairing. He said he didn't realize he was doing anything wrong until after he got past the first ocean crossing. The trip began with a dh to CDG.

I have been able to drop a few trips if I submit the drop within 4 or 5 days of the trip. By then, the long trips have been covered which helps to free up max open. I have submitted the same drop requests earlier in the month and I've been turned down due to "insufficient reserves."

Also, I've dropped several trips via CIC and refusing sub.

Brilliant. I learn something every day!

I'll give it a try.....

BTW - what does "Max Open" tell you? Is it the # of reserves?
