Ups Mech Vs Faa

I was speaking with a Mechanic about their contract and their negotiation efforts recently. He told me, with some delight, that the company called the FAA in to watch the mechanics attempting to highlight problems in maintenance. The FAA came in and observed/evaluated the mechanics for about two weeks and concluded the mechanics were doing a fine job but, the company was a problem. Now, the FAA'S focus has shifted away from mechanic and toward the attitude of the company...

Interesting....

Poetic justice. Seems like UPS is its own worst enemy on any given day. I think that the increased FAA oversight that we are all experiencing right now is going to prove more damaging to UPS than any other group. And all we have to do is simply operate as normal (professional) and UPS won't be able to get out of its own way. "Pay me now or pay me later".

Some of our MX managers may be leaving soon. There are rumors of an "enforcement action" against them for falsely signing malfunctions off. I've talked with IBT mechs who have been questioned about this by the FAA.
