Default Hollow Points Hotel in MEM vs. New Fairmont

This will probably get deleted or moved by the mods but at least some will see it before it's gone. I've also posted in the layover forum but I see that is very inactive.

Attention for all FedEx crewmembers laying over in MEM. I just stayed at the Fairfield Hotel and Suites on Hacks Cross in Olive Branch, MS. It is a brand new hotel and very nice. I stumbled across a flyer in the AOC and decided to give them a try. Price is $49 per night and with tax it's $54 per night. Checkout time is very flexible up to 24 hour stay. They provide shuttle service to crewmembers 24/7. It is lightyears better than the Hollow Points. See paragraph below. Plenty of ammenities surrounding the hotel and safe! They offer a free breakfast and high speed internet to aircrews. The people are friendly and customer oriented. The ride took 17 minutes at night to get there and 21 to get back the next day around noontime. Factor in how long you will wait for the ride from the Hollow Points and you will already be under the covers at the Fairmont before the Hollow Points shuttle even picks you up! 662-892-4469

I've been staying at the Holiday Inn (Knife Points, Hollow Points, etc.) for several years. It's convenient but frequently not a pleasant stay. Many times I have called for a ride and told he's on the way only to wait 40 minutes and several phone calls later for the ride to show up. The hotel is a 5 minute drive from the AOC so I know when they say he's on his way he hasn't even left the hotel. The hotel is currently under renovation so it appears to be getting it's badly needed refresh.

Default FDX pilot discount - MEM hotel

Thanks Mach, good info. I'll try them next time I'm stuck in MEM w/o wheels.

Another good deal, IF you have wheels, is the HI Express at Southwind on Hacks. $43/day for FDX pilots, King w/ fridge, micro, w/ breakfast, paper, wi-fi. They have a small workout room and laundry machines. No transpo yet but they are working on it; trying to hire a night driver.

Do these hotels give points at pilot rates?

I've stayed at some FDX hotels at the FDX rate and been denied points. Hiltons I think.

I've been getting points at the HI's in MEM (HI Exp Southwind and the Hollowpoint) with the discount.

I was told by the hotel staff that this was a qualifying stay at the Fairfield Marriott and I would get the points for the stay.

Good news. I've had better luck at Holiday Inn and Marriott properties. Hilton doesn't like to play.

Default MEM hotels

Dang, wish I'd seen this thread three days ago when I checked into the Hollow Points. The place is under remod, which is no biggie except the bar was down! UNSAT. Limited meals on Sundays, had to duck and weave my way over to the Catfish Cabin..... Another glorious dining experience in Memphis.

Just stayed two nights during Bus CQ. Worked well. The one thing to remember on the front end: IF they don't have known obligations for shuttle, they send their driver home @ 11pm! If they know you're coming, no problem. FWIW.

I understand the need for hollow points for pure knockdown power, but I tend to favor 230 grain full metal jacket for most situations.

the F/O today is carrying a Kimber custom .45 ACP with extended slide & match grade barrel

Yes this is true. You must coordinate your pickup in advance with the hotel staff. Just call and let them know what time you will be arriving in MEM and they will pick you up. The driver lives across the street from the hotel and says he's a night owl and stays up late plus he gets a couple extra hours of pay if he has a late pickup. So it works for him and for us.
