UPS ANC Base
Just read this on airupsers???
UPS to establish Anchorage domicile To facilitate the growth of the Asia flight network, UPS Airlines will open a new pilot domicile in Anchorage, Alaska. The opening of this domicile will improve operational flexibility, efficiency and reliability. Initially, the Anchorage domicile will be staffed by 80 MD-11 pilots, some of whom will be transfers and some of whom will be upgrades. The process of bidding for Anchorage opportunities will begin with a vacancy bid package that will go out on July 28. After the bidding, staffing and training processes are completed, the company anticipates that the domicile will be active no later than May 2007. UPS is consulting with the Independent Pilots Association on the new domicile, according to Capt. Rick Barr, UPS airline operations manager. “We held advance discussions with the IPA’s Executive Board last week, and Flight Operations and the union have agreed to work together to avoid any problems or issues in opening Anchorage,” Barr said. To help crewmembers understand how the new domicile will work, the company is working with the IPA to create a sample bid package with sample flight lines. Barr also made it clear that the Anchorage announcement is not related to the tentative labor agreement between UPS and the IPA. “We’re not seeking any contractual waivers from the IPA on the new domicile and plan to move forward regardless of what happens with ratification,” he said. “This is simply the right thing to do to position ourselves for growth.” Growth in the air business led UPS to announce last week that it will hire an additional 150 crewmembers by the end of 2006. The company is also planning to hire at least 150 more crewmembers in 2007. |

Yes, and so does our current TA. As stated in the release this is going to happen even if we vote down the TA. BWR |
You brown guys think this base will go super junior?

Gonna be a lot of folks wondering what kind of wine goes well with killer whale and raven.:D

No joke. I turned FedEx down in 97 and I have lived to regret it. If I could get hired there, I would be outta SDF in a NY minute. To be honest, I can't quite hold Capt yet, but I'm about 100 out. UPS will forever be a crappy place to work, where the employees hate coming to work. At current rates, I see me getting back to my current pay rate in 3 years. YMMV TH1 |
Trash, don't let UPS get to you. It's our flying colleagues that make our job livable, not the Dumb and Gummers or Houston "We have a Problem"s.
I'm wondering what the current junior UPS captains will do when they're displaced to a place like Anchorage. Wish they had bypassed the upgrade? |

going to fedex
Trashhauler..
Either you're shining people on or you really haven't done any research over there where the grass is supposedly greener. But you'll make a lot of junior fo's happy here if you bail to fredex. And maybe you'll be able to fly with the gal with the sock puppet over there..she sounds like a hoot. Remember, the grass is always greener over the septic tank <BG> JMO Pilot7576 |

Many years ago, there was a DAL captain who would issue instructions to the f/o and s/o via a hand puppet called "Freddy the Fox". This became a source of annoyance, and one day Freddy mysteriously disappeared. A photo of Freddy in a noose was posted on a bulletin board. His owner was frantic. A chief pilot eventually put the squeeze on likely suspects and rescued Freddy the Fox, but grounded him. |

I have studied both UPS and FedEx in detail and although UPS financials are unmatched, FedEx in my opinion has the vision to continue to succeed. Although no place is perfect, Fred seems to take better care of the folks, even if the underlying reason is to keep the pilot's union at bay. We as a union have done to ourselves what UPS has tried to do since the IPA was founded. We are badly fractured and unable to reach a consensus on virtually anything. When this POS TA passes by a slim margin, the icing will be on the cake and the union will be immasculated for at least the duration of the contract plus the usual 3+ year negotiating period. At that point I'll be retired and the point will be moot. Sorry to sound so negative, but sometime its better to cut your losses and start over. |
