TPE Layover

Any good intel on Taipei? I've got a couple long overnights at the Imperial Intercontinental.

Thanks in advance

A couple of good bars for you...Zigazaga in the downtown Hyatt next to the Taipei 101 tower. Dress up a little if you can. Try also the TU club, ask the concierge for directions to give to the taxi. Wednesday is ladies night there, and also at Carnegie's. Carnegie's is wild on Wednesdays and the weekends, with girls dancing on the bar if that's OK to you.

Have fun.

I am highly opposed to fun and I would be appalled by women dancing on a bar.....lol. Sounds good, thanks for the intel.

Malibu Grill

Go out front door, turn left and left again at first alley. About 50 yards on the right is I think the Malibu Grill. Cold beer, OK menu and TV. Continuing down the alley is entertaining for sightseeing at night. About 300 yards is a cross street with lots of vendors.

Make a right out of the hotel and go one block to the barbershop for a "haircut", open 24hrs! ;)

Is that one of those barber shops with two barber poles?

Hooters is an interesting place to go. Of course, the girls don't have any hooters, but they are still dressed in the same outfits that the Hooter Girls in the states wear and try to flirt the same way too. The layout of the restaurant and bar, and menu are the same as in the states, but the atmosphere is very different.

Also, try a tour of Taipei 101, the world's tallest building. That's good for 1/2 day. Try to go on a clear day, though.

Taipei 101 is a good time killer. World's fastest elevator ride.

If you are really bored and want to get rid of your appetite go to snake alley. The hotel can give you directions for the cab, they do not want any pictures taken, probably to prevent their version of PETA from cracking down ! It is fun watching the selling tactics, I wish I could have understood what the salesman were claiming could happen if you drink the local drink.

The food court in the basement of the 101 building is a trip. If you're afraid to sample the local food, like I was, you can get something in the grocery store down there. The beer and the sushi are fine.

I'm here in TPE and was curious if anyone new a good tailor where I could get some custom made pilot shirts. There's a tailor on the corner, is it any good?
Thanks for the replies.

Other things to see and do:
Cheng Kai Shek memorial, Fine Arts Museum, and National Palace Museum
You can also rent bikes for about $2 US an hour and ride the paths along the river
The food at Hooters is horrible, but is an ok place to drink and sightsee. Also near the Hooters is the Shannon and Brass Monkey bars.
Avoid the local beer - it is laden with formaldyhide. Worst headaches you'll ever experience!

Have fun in Taiwan-on!

The Imperial watch shop is one of the best places in the world for copy watches of great quality. You'll pay for them but they are worth the money. Right out of the hotel about half a block.
