DHL in USA
DHL does not own or operate an airline in the US. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Post and are thereby prohibited by law from doing so.
ABX Air, and Astar Air Cargo are respectively the two largest contract carriers (ACMI) hauling for DHL these days in the USA. ABX is not currently hiring, but that may change before the year is out. I don't know what Astar is currently doing about hiring.
ABX recently purchased 12 Boeing 767-200's from Delta, some of which are already on line. Four of the Delta aircraft that are now on line have been committed to the DHL system. DHL recently notified ABX they are releasing 28 DC-9's and DC-8's This is two more than previously noted, but most or all of these aircraft are already parked, so the actual reduction is 24 aircraft. Again these aircraft are already parked, and have been for some time. DHL simply hadn't released them.
I have been told ABX is actively seeking work for the parked aircraft. There are rumors about where they might go, but nothing firm so far.
ABX is also actively in the market for more 767 aircraft. Joe Hete, the company CEO has said he has potential contracts for more aircraft.

ASTAR has hired about 35 in the past 18 months. Last new hire class was in June. There are a few in the pool for future class dates. Not currently interviewing.
Adding lines on the 727. Status Quo on the 8 and Bus.

The ILN DC8 crews get the FWA-LAX charter and the MIA-KIN-MBJ-MIA trip. MIA 767 gets some trips from LAX which include SJO, GUA, MEX, GDL.
Certainly sounds like we need more 767s for the charter side. Of course, both MIA and ILN are short on 767 crews and they don't have enough 767 instructors to put through the scheduled classes without given guys weeks off wiating for the sim.
