Default FedEx Coporate Jets

We get FedEx corporate jets at my airport all the time.
N3FE
N4FE
N10FE
Which leads me to believe they have quite a large fleet of these jets. They are Challengers.

My question is who flies these?? Are these FedEx pilots? How would you get a job flying their corporate jets?

What airport? Those are corporate pilots who can try and go to the line if they want to after 3 years.

One of my crash pad mates flys a lear jet for Fed Ex.

They have a hanger at HRO, Harrision AR

To get on with FedEx Corporate, you really need to have some sort of an inside link. There are currently two pilots that have been interviewed for positions and are sitting in the "pool". From what I hear from a friend that flies corporate for them, it looks like at least one of them will be picked up in the next few months (late summer/early fall).
To get the job, the interview is the same as a regular line pilot interview (same board/same sim eval). Corporate pilots have the opportunity to transfer over to line flying (without accrued seniority), however it's my understanding that only some of them do (secondhand knowledge). The corporate side operates a good sized fleet... Sounds like they might be a bit tight on pilots (a few did choose to go to the line), and right now they are running thin since they didn't pull the pool candidates to replace them (budget constraints?)


Here's the latest on what I know:

1FE - Global Express
2FE - Challenger
3FE - Challenger
4FE - Lear 45
5FE - Lear 45
6FE - Lear 45
7FE - Lear 45
9FE - Lear 45
10FE - Challenger
14FE - Lear 45
15FE - Lear 45

Primary base is in MEM, they also keep a plane in PIT, and possibly some other location (can't remember).

Interesting sidebar:

The Challenger was actually designed as a replacement for the Falcon 20s. FX wanted an aircraft that could accomidated full-size containers and later be stretched when deregulation hit. Canadair designed the 600, which has grown into the CRJ family. Deregulation hit earlier for cargo, and 727s were available so they only ordered 3 600s for executive use.

I understand the first one was a bene for Fred buying so many. They gave it to him because he ordered something like 60 of them. Then when dereg hit, he sold all the options on these at a profit and stlll got to keep the first one. Not a bad deal....

The job is strictly tough to get, it was my first job at FedEx and only reason i got it, besides passing the interview process, was because I had the particular airplane experience that they needed at that time, Canadair Challenger. True, not everyone transfers over to the Line Haul side, it is a great job sans the pay that the Line Haul drivers realize. The equipment is highly maintained and they bid a schedule every month, unlike other corporate flight departments that keep you close by, just in case. Corporate Pilots are not Union members either and they do not hold a Line Haul Seniority number. A great job for a retired Military guy.

Is that the corporate hangar on Democrat opposite the rental car companies? I guess the corporate jets are maintained by FBO and not regular FedEx AMT's?

Yes, the corporate hangars are across from the Rental car places in MEM. However, they are about to tear down several of the hangars and build another large hangar for the corporate fleet.

They also house some of the Lears in Arkansas to support FedEx Ground or Freight....at least that is my understanding.
