Default FDX- New Posting Training Freeze Question

Interesting point brought up by a bud who is slated to leave the 757 left seat for the MD11 left seat on this bid. He will be one of the most senior awards, i.e. will train early but the company indicated to him they may "hold" 757 crewmembers in seat and pay passover.

While on the surface you may think, "cool as long as I get paid", but what about QOL issues? How long can they "delay" your training?

I have heard of LCA's getting stamped on the bottom of the training letter but haven't heard of folks being held back due to company shortages.

Feel free to weigh in on this.

Being junior and already in the seat (11/CA), I'm all for it. I don't know about your bud's QOL, but mine will improve if they check out someone below me instead!!

That's right... let's get some of those SOs in training.

757 FOs who were excessed to the back seat were "held back" from SO training for approximately 4-5 months last year due to a shortage of 757 crews over peak.

More senior pilots (MD-11 FOs) being excessed from ANC were trained earlier than planned, but were given some minimal compensation (about 1 months pay at their old FO rate) ---- the Union Greivance Chair bought off on this plan.

It has happen several times in the past. Question is, will they hold back the HKG crewmembers also because of unfilled seats in HKG. With them, there isn't even a passover pay issue.

Where do they need pilots? MD11 all domiciles and 777. You can expect the fallout from that to affect the house of cards.

Also a consideration is maintaining a ready pool of 757 crewmembers for airplanes that may be quickly entering service.

I fully expect temporary passover pay as they ensure those 3 airplanes are not caught short. Just look at who is moving. Folks will go to training out of order. It's inevitable.

Default Here's the rub....

The problem isn't just about money. By delaying just 4 months on training it will force my bud to have to go through all 63 days of MD11 school. If he trained in seniority order at an approximate date coincident with past training letters he would only go through the long requal course.

So, "bid what you want to fly" has an asterisk.

Bid What You Want To Fly*

*We'll train you when we are dam well ready to regardless of the effect on your quality of life.

Might be worth bringing up to someone if they can keep him out of training for two months.
