I believe he said "... if the new FAA Crew Rest rules were enacted today ... we'd be short 1000 pilots."

Anybody know how much notice is given for a class date? Do you still think it will be January? Thanks in advance for your help.

1. I had 3 days notice. 2. I wouldn't be suprised to see it happening "early" next year.
Good luck to you!

There was a guy in our class that had a -2 hour notice. Someone didn't show up that morning and they called him at the first break.

Jan is their plan --- for internal pilots (...professional instructors and corporate pilots who have fulfilled their committments to those departments).

I think those guys will have plenty of notice, because their managers have to backfill their slots.

External hiring from the "current pool" may not happen until Feb or even March --- and my guess is 2-4 weeks notice for those guys.

The real unkown is when will the meet-n-greets and interviews start again for pilots not in the current pool.

There will be a need for at least 90-100 new hire pilots next year.

In an almost identical situation (long hiring drought, Pro instructors well past completing commitment,) the 8 pros in my class had Thursday afternoon calls for a Monday class. They even asked if I could stop by hiring office on
Friday, because they could not get the offer letter to me by Fedex prior to class starting (prior to Fedex Saturday delivery service.)

The meet-n-greet is dead. Straight from O.

FDXLAG - thanks for the reply

Busdrivr - sorry my questions irritated you. I did do a search before asking my questions. The results varied between FedEx pilots dying 5 years after retirement, a long discussion on soylent green and a 2006 retirement schedule that doesn't make sense considering other post that FedEx has one of the oldest pilot groups in the industry.

He's retired now though! :)
