How long in the Engineer seat is a huge guess but I doubt it will be the 4-5 years that the current engineers have endured. Ten R days is not common except for those who bid the South America 727 lines. Lately the ability to move R days is very flexible and 4-5 days is more common when on reserve. The ability to drop those R days is also available building up your make up bank that u can use to pick up trips in open time.

The dropping and moving of R-days is not always so easy. Since we've been so "overmanned" (uhhh, yeah) in my seat, I have not been able to drop or move ANY R day. I don't think I've had any luck since last summer, FWIW. Denied: Insufficient Reserves.

Speaking of reserve schedules...

What is the minimum amount of days off on reserve for the month?

How long are the callouts? Is there a long call, medium call, short call reserve system?

Thanks.

Cloud: In a nutshell:

19 days of reserve in a 5 week bid month. 16 days off.

15 R days in a 28 day month, 13 days off.

RSV = 24 hour notice, very few of those lines usually, I think contractually it is 10% of the R lines.

RA is on call basically 0130 to 1330, 1.5 hour callout. Some bases are 3.0 callout (ANC?)

RB is on call 1330 to 0130, 1.5 hour callout in Memhis.

There is also RA+ and RB+ which shifts the on call window 6 hours, but that isn't used too often as far as I have seen.

Right on, thanks. Doesn't sound bad at all, as far as reserve goes...

Don't you have to be phone available by midnight for the RA period? How does FDX get away with forcing you to be contactable outside your duty period?

Notification window is midnight to noon for 0130-1330 showtimes. You are only obligated to answer until noon, thus 12-hour window any way you slice it.
