FDX Retirement Inquiries
Slow day in the hub...thought I'd pass on something that a Captain that I flew with told me. He said that there have been approximately 400 inquiries about retirement for next year. That doesn't mean that all 400 will retire, just that they're finding out about their situation and retirement standing (i.e. pay). This has to be a good thing, right?
|
Probably the same 400 old fellas that asked last year, right? As in they forgot. Get it? Cause they're old? Thank you, thank you.;)
|
Inquired about mine but they said I had to wait another 20 years.
|
I heard the ladies at the union doing retirement briefings have gone from individual briefs to group briefings to handle the increased demand for information.

I sat in on one the last Wednesday. They are 3 & 1/2 hours long and cover a bunch of really good stuff. For those who didn't/couldn't make it to Memphis, they set you up with a phone conference call, which is what I did. A number of guys present at the conference that I listened to were not planning on retirement in the next year, but a few years out. Regardless, it was very informative, and time well spent.

That's all great, now hurry up and f-ing retire already!!!
Did they mention that if you retire at 60, your life expectancy is 72, if you retire at 65, your life expectancy is 67? |
There was more than one inquiring mind at my meeting...

A more pertinent study for THIS board would be a age of death vs retirement age study of pilots whose career has them flying back-side-of-the-clock and whipsawed circadian rhythms. AA ain't that airline, and the FSF study ain't that study. |
