--This is ridiculous! Ask an attorney, a physician, or an electrical engineer running a nuclear power plant to do his job for the current reg: 16 hours!

What do you think he will tell you? He'll say this is ridiculous.

The long and short is that we don't know WHAT the new rules will be, but you can bet that since Obama is considered AGAINST big-business, that Fred Smith, and the CEO of Delta, and the CEO of United-Continental, and the CEO of American, and whomever is in the seat at Southwest....will come out COMPLETELY against all these changes. Fred wants a REPUBLICAN everything so that he can instantly invalidate our collective bargaining agreement and CUT YOUR SALARY DOWN TO INDUSTRY AVERAGE for cargo carriers, such as Capital Cargo and Atlas-

That means that a wide-body captain will earn about $140 per hour. From what I've heard, we have a few 777 instructors who are earning around $500,000 per year. I know one of them- he struts around the crashpad in Memphis talking about how he is moving to another state because he doesn't want to pay state tax.

He's a military guy, and the federal government spent $1 million to pay for his aviation training. That's right- $1 MILLION, right out of you or your parents pockets.

"I don't want to pay any taxes. Any taxes at all!"

-How I can hold myself back in these instances is beyond me; I have to live in a small place in Memphis for a few days each month, so I just shut my mouth.

Well, "BRUCE" [that's not his name but I have to come up with one] has been out earning his $45,000 per month and yet...while spending most of his time from August 30 to September 25 in our crashpad [paying the grand total of $200 per month, just as me]

Hello? Anyone home? You are earning $45k per MONTH and you will room with 6 guys? Yeah, I would do that if I wanted to party with them a little bit, but this is ridiculous! If I was paid that much I'd just BUY a house in Memphis, or rent a place on the cheap. BRUCE was the consumate student: He studied from 0800 to 1600 each day in his room. I was amazed- I can't work that hard.

CHEAP- that is a WORD isn't it!

-folks, I'm sorry; I cannot believe what I see at this airline some times. You may feel free to criticize me all you want; go on, bring it, give it to me. JetJock: Go ahead and analyze me. I want you to know that I post this stuff in the best intentions: That is, I want to point out stupidity and waste and DUMB actions so that we can ALL advance. I've worked at places that would curl even your greasy hair!

Remeber folks: YOUR BIG PAYCHECK comes as courtesy of a union contract. Those folks on Fox News that you like so much are INTENT on deleting your contract. You are a per-hour employee, and as an airline pilot in China, you'd earn about $10 per hour, or about the same as the guy in the orange vest at Home Depot.

-That's if you are senior......

Well said.
I always find it amusing (in a sad way) to listen to the guy flaming about the company..doing the whole Union ra ra ra thing and then launch into a rant about creeping socialism , democrats, ect...

For Pete's sake please educate yourself where the pay rates and work rules that we enjoy come from (hint: its not from the happy parts of Fred's heart) and stop actively working to undermine them.

These are also usually the same guys looking forward to TriCare at 65.... socialized medicine hell...

I guess I did go off on a rant there. In the words of the great Gilda Radner:

"Nevermind"

On our side I have heard the suggestion of the schedules being built wed. to wed. w/ weekend layovers.

Personally, I am trashed on night 4, but I kind of suck on night one also.

Still donate to breast cancer, but Gilda died of ovarian cancer.

I think this would be the answer, assuming 3 night hub turns max and as a commuter, I'd prefer this approach. From the company side, it would appear to be a better option than 3 days on, one day off in domicile, 3 days on--fewer pilots required.

As for the political spin on this thread, people routinely vote against their best interest based on superficial reasoning or movement of the herd. And that goes both ways.

That's because people differ in how broadly or how narrowly they define their own "best interest."

Flightcrew Member Duty and Rest Requirements

Not sure I'm reading this right, but taking the 2-pilot limit (no RFO) to 10 hours could be pretty brutal on the MD-11 and 777 crowd. I hear lots of talk about how fatiguing the 2-pilot MEM-ANC leg is now. With a 10-hour limit, there could be a whole bunch of marathon 2-pilot legs coming to a bidpack near you. Wondering how others see this?

From the CBA:

Appendix A: Initial SIG Parameters and Starting Values
Hard Parameters
The Company must apply hard parameters in the bid pack construction process unless the Vice President, Flight Operations and the MEC Chairman agree otherwise in writing. Any such agreement may contain conditions and/or limitations, as mutually agreed between the V.P. and the MEC Chairman.

International

5. An international duty period shall not be constructed in excess of 7+35 block hours without at least three airmen on board (e.g., DC-10 standard crew, MD-11 with RFO).

Not unless we vote a change to the contract.
