I skimmed through the rulemaking. It appears that they will limit us to 3 night hub turns, unless we can rest in the hub. Is that how you guys have read it? I'd much rather work five days in a row, because I'm adjusted by day 3. What do you guys make of it?

I know NOTHING about how the new regs will be instituted. I'm not in the circle at the FAA that determines this sort of thing.

But I will say that beyond 14 hours of duty, my mind starts going.

--This is ridiculous! Ask an attorney, a physician, or an electrical engineer running a nuclear power plant to do his job for the current reg: 16 hours!

What do you think he will tell you? He'll say this is ridiculous.

The long and short is that we don't know WHAT the new rules will be, but you can bet that since Obama is considered AGAINST big-business, that Fred Smith, and the CEO of Delta, and the CEO of United-Continental, and the CEO of American, and whomever is in the seat at Southwest....will come out COMPLETELY against all these changes. Fred wants a REPUBLICAN everything so that he can instantly invalidate our collective bargaining agreement and CUT YOUR SALARY DOWN TO INDUSTRY AVERAGE for cargo carriers, such as Capital Cargo and Atlas-

That means that a wide-body captain will earn about $140 per hour. From what I've heard, we have a few 777 instructors who are earning around $500,000 per year. I know one of them- he struts around the crashpad in Memphis talking about how he is moving to another state because he doesn't want to pay state tax.

He's a military guy, and the federal government spent $1 million to pay for his aviation training. That's right- $1 MILLION, right out of you or your parents pockets.

"I don't want to pay any taxes. Any taxes at all!"

-How I can hold myself back in these instances is beyond me; I have to live in a small place in Memphis for a few days each month, so I just shut my mouth.

Well, "BRUCE" [that's not his name but I have to come up with one] has been out earning his $45,000 per month and yet...while spending most of his time from August 30 to September 25 in our crashpad [paying the grand total of $200 per month, just as me]

Hello? Anyone home? You are earning $45k per MONTH and you will room with 6 guys? Yeah, I would do that if I wanted to party with them a little bit, but this is ridiculous! If I was paid that much I'd just BUY a house in Memphis, or rent a place on the cheap. BRUCE was the consumate student: He studied from 0800 to 1600 each day in his room. I was amazed- I can't work that hard.

CHEAP- that is a WORD isn't it!

-folks, I'm sorry; I cannot believe what I see at this airline some times. You may feel free to criticize me all you want; go on, bring it, give it to me. JetJock: Go ahead and analyze me. I want you to know that I post this stuff in the best intentions: That is, I want to point out stupidity and waste and DUMB actions so that we can ALL advance. I've worked at places that would curl even your greasy hair!

Remeber folks: YOUR BIG PAYCHECK comes as courtesy of a union contract. Those folks on Fox News that you like so much are INTENT on deleting your contract. You are a per-hour employee, and as an airline pilot in China, you'd earn about $10 per hour, or about the same as the guy in the orange vest at Home Depot.

-That's if you are senior......

I was wondering the same thing. Much prefer to do 4-5 in a row like we do instead of having to do another transition to regular hours and then back again for another short 2-3 string of turns.

LMAO!

And, with the reduction in hub turns, some get to commute more times per month! Yippee!

Who would have thunk it:

Federal Express Corp Contributions to Federal Candidates | OpenSecrets

Seems like the Fedex contributions are a lot more bipartisan than the world famous ALPO-PAC.

Maybe you meant to say that Fred does not buy enough air time on CNN.

Yeah... it looks like our stuff starts on page 62. The way I read it, the FAA thinks 5 nights is okay as long as we get a bed in the hub (see split-rest requirements a few pages before).

The ARC is recommending 4 nights as long as we get 14 hours off between night 3 and 4, if we can't then it's only 3 nights.

Thus, a flightcrew member who is currently assigned two 5-night pairings in a 2-week period could potentially be assigned three 3-night pairings in the same 2-week period, increasing the risk associated with the first night of operations by 50 percent during that timeframe. Certainly long-standing industry practice has been to fly more than three consecutive nights. The FAA is concerned that taking an approach that may appear safer in modeling could lead to adverse safety impacts in the real world.
I think that the FAA is right in this case. We're going to end up with 3-on 4-off and be constantly switching our body clocks. I'd rather hub turn M-F and be off for a week.

A rant bracketed between the two facts I took from that post. The second fact is that your roomie is senior to you!
