The Busiest Day Is December 13

Wow, 16 million packages is a lot.

I was watching "Man vs. Food" last night and the guy was at Charles Vergos' Rendezvous. He was given 60 minutes to eat this gigantic burger, but with 10 minutes to go, he realized he couldn't do it. This restaurant's website says it will deliver its specialities using the hometown behemoth. Has anyone ordered ribs and such from Rendezvous and had them delivered the next day? Maybe I'll try it. I'll order on Dec 12 and add one more package to that 16 million. :D

From Associated Press:

NEW YORK — FedEx expects to move nearly 16 million packages on its busiest day this year, Dec. 13. The prediction is FedEx's highest ever for a single day and 11 percent higher than last year.

More than half the increase is from its partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, FedEx Corp. said Thursday. Those shipments are mostly for consumers who are ordering from online retailers during the busy holiday shopping season.

Last year, the Memphis, Tenn. company shipped 14.2 million packages on its busiest day. FedEx's larger rival, Atlanta-based UPS, hasn't yet made any predictions. FedEx ships about 7.5 million packages on an average day.

During the week of Dec. 13, the company expects to move more than 63.1 million packages compared to last year's busiest week of 57.5 million.

FedEx says driving those numbers will be books from large Internet retailers, clothing, consumer electronics and luxury goods.

Peak projections from UPS and FedEx are closely watched by economists because they can signal how the broader economy is doing. Consumer spending accounts for about 70 percent of U.S. economic activity and is critical to a strong rebound.

Many of those consumer goods are shipped via FedEx and UPS.

Rendezvous has the best dry ribs I've ever tasted... just sayin'

I have ordered Corkie's BBQ overnight several times. It comes flash frozen packed in dry ice (took a very long time to thaw). It's a hit with my (non-TN) neighbors.

Vags ... If you make it to Memphis, I'll be glad to take you to dinner at the Rendezvous. The train runs through the parking lot and the building shakes when the train goes by.

The last time I ate there was to pay MD11FR8DOG back for a favor. (I think the place has burned down several times?)

Vags, I think the Best BBQ in town is Central BBQ, on Central Ave. Don't think they ship, but next time I'm in MEM I'll check it out:)

Catfish: A & J's on Knight-Arnold

BBQ: Tom's BBQ on Getwell (South)
Chicken: Uncle Lou's "Sweet Spicy Love" (Winchester to Mildenhall? Google it)
Both are 5-10 minutes from "base". Bring your bullet proof vest to Uncle Lou's, lunch crowd seems safe enough. Uncle Lou's has a website and ships sauce via Purple tail.
