UPS Jumpseating Question
 

Hey Guys/Gals,

About to start commuting transcon for a few months until I can move my family back east.

UPS is a good j/s option for me when I have a PM Show, but it connects in SDF. There is a 2 hour sit there. Wondering how this works? Is it difficult to change planes jumpseating into/outof the hub? Can someone give me the skinny?

I've been flying 121 for 12 years and have never had the pleasure of occupying a Cargo Carrier Jumpseat.. I got the links for UPS / FEDEX flight searching and the listing numbers.

Also, whats the checkin procedure at an outstation city? (IE: LAS)

Checkin at the outstations (or gateways) is 1 hr prior to departure. Sitting thru the SDF sort blows, but the crew that brings you in and the js desk people are usually helpful. There's a cafeteria (eat at your own risk) and 2 TV rooms to help kill the time.

Just 1 word of caution. Crew scheds likes to move crews around on the jumpseats as well, so if you're the 4th or 5th jumpseater on the list just beware that there is always a small chance of getting bumped.

Also depending on the length of the flight, most of the domestic gateways will cater for jumpseaters as well as crew.

I'm assuming all the fleet types have a different amount of actual seats. Correct?

Also, upon listing on the phone, they will advise where I stand (in line) for one of those seats?

One thing to keep in mind, UPS uses Z-dates, so if you're wanting to fly on a Monday night that's a Tuesday to UPS.

Raul you are correct, they can tell you where you stand on the list.

That Zulu date deal is odd considering the Flight checking site just gives a zulu time and then uses a little blue airplane Icon on the days the flight operates!

I'm sure I'll only screw it up once or twice..

Make sure you have a second form of ID besides your airline crew ID. It can be a passport, driver's license, military ID, etc.

Remember...Zulu times and dates!

I haven't been to LAS in a couple of years, but I remember UPS being way over in BFE. You'll probably have to park your car, and take a cab over there, if I remember correctly. Check in with the rent a cop, get searched, then go to flight ops, and they will print out your jumpseat pass. You'll either walk out to the aircraft with the crew, or they will take you out in a van. Have fun.
