[QUOTE=JustUnderPar;928570]It looks like UPS management pilot window is open. Union Pilots on Furlough and non-union management pilots being added. Can someone please explain this one to me........

Because this is UPS and the IPA is unable to stop it.

Someone on the B & G made a great point. He said that UPS mangement is so hated by its pilots that it has to go outside to hire people to fill the ranks. Very unique and telling.

To all of you considering applying for a "management" position here at Brown: You are a Dumb A$$!

Agreed. No integrity with this place. At least have the protection of the IPA than let these Brown own your soul. Your life will suck!

Out of curiosity, anybody care to elaborate on the issues with mgmt pilots. Aren't these your sim instructors/chief pilot types? I haven't paid much attention to UPS threads in awhile.

Whatever happened to the d-bag who broke into a pilot's room to reassign him?

KC: They do sim instructor/chief pilot jobs here, but there are so many of them compared to the number of pilots, that they mostly end up straightening magazines on the tables in the ready rooms, calling crewmembers to harass them about sick calls, or writing useless bulletins changing procedures for the umpteenth time to justify their numbers.

What they primarily do though, is act as a super-reserve force, flying to the limits of the FAR's with no contract restrictions. They are referred to here as NURPS - Non Union Replacement Pilots. The company is currently hiring more to replace some who are retiring, even though we have union pilots on furlough.

You can only imagine the acrimony at this place.

Sadly, he is still here. The good 'ol boy management policy is still alive and well and protects their own.

There is no integrity among ups management, including the pilot ranks.

To put it in perspective for kc135driver ...

In my days at America West, there were almost 2000 pilots. We had one chief pilot and 3-4 assistants in PHX and I think one in LAS when it was a pilot base.

At UPS in ANC alone there is a chief pilot and 5 ACPs for less than 500 pilots.

System wide we are about 2700 pilots

At a quick glance,

UPS has over 10 Chief Pilots and over 60 assistants.

I didn't bother to count the 50 or more folks that work solely in the training centers and do not have supervisory functions but are Capt qualified.

Over-supervised for sure. But the real reason for many of these positions is to provide UPS with a super reserve system that has no contractual limits. And pilots that are willing to go above and beyond sane duty limits, the ones that union members can refuse.

And since your status is furloughed UAL, you may already be familiar with ALPA and how management pilots can hold a position on the seniority list. They can also cycle back and forth from management to the line as they wish. I believe the term for the higher levels in management was "exectutive inactive". Not so at UPS ... "managers" are a completely seperate work force

Does that help ...

Airbum 01-14-2011 06:58 AM

last union meeting I went to years ago stated that their where approximately 184 non union pilots performing what the union considered same class and craft as the union folks.

this is not counting the relatively few who are higher up mgt

Guess why there is no 400 base in the lower 48 ... guess why ups can furlough and count on hundreds to fly whatever they are told .... guess who crossed the teamsters picket lines....
