This thread is like watching dogs run around in circles.
A Class I medical is good for 12 months for a pilot less than 40 years old.
A pilot needs a Class I medical to fly revenue trips in Europe.
A pilot applying for a job at Fedex needs a Class I medical administered within 6 months of his application.

I too ran out in a rush to get my First class medical renewed, since mine was 8 months out (I am under 40). Today I see, per the qualifications section of pilotcredentials.com, the requirement for a First class medical as listed below:
"Meet requirements for and currently hold First Class Medical certification".
No reference to the First Class Medical being w/in 6 months.
"Meet requirements for and currently hold First Class Medical certification".
No reference to the First Class Medical being w/in 6 months.
