FedEx First Class Medical 6 months?
 

Completing the application for FedEx, they ask for the date of your First Class Medical and it says it must be within the last 6 months. Since I am under 40 my first class is valid for 1 year. Do you think this is a possible oversight on their part that might be changed? (I'm not trying to start a new FE Written 2 year debate.) I'll happily go get a new first class medical if that's what they want.

Most Captains are required to get one every 6 months. All FedEx MD-11/777 f/o's are type rated and required to have a First Class medical. Many European countries are now requiring a "second-in command" rating. I wonder if that requires a class one medical? I "think" OVER 60 requires a First Class medical?

And most importantly of all ... why risk this opportunity over something as silly to comply with as this :eek:

According to the requirements posted on the FDX website, you must posses a current First Class Medical within the previous 6 months. The below section explains the FAA requirements. The company requirements are more stringent for applicants.


I know that I am a Military guy with no knowledge of FARs, but here is the reference.

And I hope all you guys filling out apps made the correct response when asked.......i.e. Do you possess a current FE written? You answer YES on 1/24/11, then I hope you got it before this date.

You plan on getting it this week, then you better fill out the app after you get the written complete.

They will check, trust.

Also, if you get an interview then you better be straightforward about everything. i.e. Have you ever had a speeding ticket? You answer NO when you had one but fought it and got it excused.......you still got a ticket for speeding.

Background checks know you got one even though it was dropped by the judge.

Interviewer wants you to be straightforward and tell what you learned from your mistakes.

JDriver, I agree with you that you have to get a new medical if Fedex requires it as stated in the question but you are wrong about FAR 61.23.

(d) Duration of a medical certificate. Use the following table to determine duration for each class of medical certificate:

Didn't this reg change 2 years ago for a first class duration to 12 months is acting as an ATP.

On another note how do you breakdown flight times with dual and sic???? Do I include my dual time with my sic time? Solo time with PIC time. Why is the ATR-72 and CRJ200 in the 12,500 - 40k category they are heavier then that???? but not by much ;)

I am an under 40 MD-11 FO. I get my first class medical once every 12 months for it to be current. This has nothing to do what the application says. I would do what the application says!

Thanks for the info. I was simply posting the FAR and subsection so anyone can easily find the reference and complete the reading for themselves. I did not try to support either side. The important thing is that applicant knows that it is a company requirement to have a current First Class medical within the previous 6 months.
