Default FedEx DEN jumpseat

Anyone know where off-line jumpseaters park in Denver? I have a SIDA badge with employee parking, but the security guard didn't seem to think I can park over by the FedEx ramp.

As a related question... I am going to MEM next week for the poolie review, which includes an A300 sim ride. I would like to jumpseat on the Airbus to MEM, but would I be able to ride in the cockpit if there are open seats in the "back"? (I am CASS approved).

Thanks in advance guys. Appreciate all your help and info over the years on this forum.

...Sorry to hear about your brother in the MD-11 sim, sad way to go, may he Rest In Peace.

DEN commuters park in the airport employee lot and take the airport bus to FedEx via the passenger terminal. The FedEx ramp manager in DEN won't allow pilots to park in the lot in front of the FedEx building.

The only people allowed to jumpseat on FedEx are "Cockpit Eligible." Actually sitting in the cockpit can be approved by the captain regardless of open seats in the back.

He was flying the MD-11 sim, not the B757. Not a big deal, just keeping the facts straight.

Take the employee bus to the terminal, get off the bus and turn left. Walk to the end where the sign says "cargo route." The cargo van leaves the terminal on the hour and half hour. 10-12 minutes to Fedex. When returning, expect the van to leave Fedex aprroximately 10 or 40 past the hour, be a couple minutes early if you can.

I've jumped on FDX a few times over the last year. The crew is always pleasant and most welcoming. At first I was taken aback when they closed the cockpit door and said "see you in (wherever)". But hey, it is THEIR ship, they are nice enough to let me hitch a ride, and I'm just happy to get a ride!
(I work for a carrier that is in CASS as well, but they seem to want J/S in the back, unless there is no room left in back.)

That being said, I would imagine if you mentioned you were in the pool, heading to class, taking the A300 sim ride, etc. they would be more than happy to have you up front to check it out. Or one would hope!

Oh, by the way, Congrats! Enjoy the new gig!

I do that all the time with my jumpers, I just assume it's more comfortable back there! You can sleep, read, play video games, or whatever, and not be bothered by the crew. And when I j/s, I prefer it to the cockpit.

Just my $.02

That is the norm here, most folks prefer to sit in the back unless its full. I have asked a couple of times to sit up front and they don't usually mind. I find it interesting to be able to watch how the heavy side of the operation actually operates some times. The view is certainly better.

Most of our jumpers are asleep before the 3d engine is started, that's why we close the door and turn out the lights.

Thanks for the help and input.

Any idea why, on the ALPA FedEx jumpseat finder page, the DEN-MEM flight on the A300 (19:00L), is apparently blocked at 3:50 (02:00Z-05:50Z)???

While the MD-10 and MD-11 flights are blocked at the more reasonable 2:30ish? I am pretty sure I'm looking at all non-stop flights...

The Bus isn't that slow is it?

You may get more than you bargained for, on that flight. It's a sweep. It flies the wrong direction for awhile before heading to the planet.
