Question for FedEx pilots
I am furloughed from UPS and trying to get in at FedEx. Have the internal rec's, application with cover letter and letter of recommendations submitted, and currently employed as a part 121 PC check airman. Have an offer to be Director of Training at another 121 carrier. Means a big raise to change jobs but no flying as Director of Training. Which would Fed Ex look upon as better? Staying put and current or advancing at another employer? Inquiring minds want to know.

Tough choice. I have no idea what will happen with the new hiring process, but here's what happened to me (and a lot of my peers) during the last hiring wave. I did the old "meet and greet" with my app completely ready to go. I didn't get called to interview until about 10 months later. The interview went well and I was placed in the pool. My class date was about 8 months after the interview. I was lucky, some of the guys who interviewed in the months after me were in the pool 4+ years.
What if I wasn't flying during that time before the interview? I don't know. Are they going to hire into a pool this time? I don't know. What if it takes a while and then FedEx doesn't hire you? How will other potential employers look at a non flying position on your resume? Is this non flying job a potential long term career you'll be happy with?
I would love to see us hire as many Brown furloughees as want to come here. Of course my opinion is rarely sought. Best of luck with whatever road you choose!

Are you doing anything that would check the flight currency box (maybe Guard or Reserves)? If not, I would hate to show up for a "major league" interview and have to explain that, "I'm not current now but ...
You get the idea.
That said ... we have a new Chief Pilot and we have not hired since he's had the job so nobody really knows what will happen (or exactly what "they'll" be looking for).
Good luck

Back to the thread topic. Follow the route that you would enjoy more assuming that FedEx does not come thru. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
