That's not the rumor.

Why would they want to do that? They have more customers and demand than they can service. A management that is smart enough to buy airplanes and grow based on commitments, not "hopes" for new business. And a block space agreement with DHL that puts excess capacity on other company aircraft not dedicated to DHL service.

And the customers buy the gas...

Just the rumor going around, have heard it from a few atlas and polar guys

From looking at the company history and current operating strategy, the Atlas executive team is currently focused on internal growth and not acquisitions ... especially when it would involve getting into bed with Joe Hete and the ATSG group.

These Atlas guys are young, hungry, and very sharp. They move fast to take advantage of lucrative opportunities and they seem to be doing a really good job at it.

Clearly the 767's are on the way, and based on their recent history, they'll be getting either new or almost new airframes - maybe 400F's?

Forgive me for my ignorance as I've just started clicking and sniffing around Atlas, and I fear based on the knowledge of company shown in this thread that I am about to ask a really stupid question. So I expect some teasing, but everybody seems to be really excited about the potential of adding 76's to the Atlas fleet. I am just curious as to why? I'll expect a few jabs and heckling in reponse,...and I can take it. But after that stuff subsides, I really would like to know ha! Thanks guys.

Atlas is very aggressive at getting new business and I would speculate that the 747 is not an appropriate airplane for some of the new routes/loads they are planning. Also, from what I understand, they don't get new airplanes until they have cargo to fill them. Beyond that, I don't have anything specific.

Jim, if you're interested in Atlas I would recommend taking the time to watch some of the recent presentations given by the company. Very informative.

Where would they find 22 767 anyway?

JimmyJr3 04-04-2011 07:59 AM

I get the growth part and that is certainly exciting, but specifically to piloting this specific airplane, why? There seems to be this undertone that flying the 76 vs. the 74 would be a much better deal for an Atlas pilot? That's what I'm curious about. At the same time I could be way off. Thanks regardless!
