I am a 6 year regional FO with no upgrade in sight and I would give just about anything to go fly for Southern, Kalitta or any other cargo operation but I don't have any contacts. Seems like it's all in who you know. Anyone have some helpful advice? Thanks in advance.

Persistence.... I didnt really know anyone at Kalitta but it did take about 18 months of months contact to snag an interview. I did have someone forward my resume to the appropriate people but that was about a year into all of it. The fact is that MOST of the people in my new hire class..... 6 FE's, 5 classic FOs and 11 -400 FOs and internal recs. Thats not to say its not possible, just be persistent. Our CP occasionally goes to job fairs around the country and he plays a fairly significant role in who gets called for interviews, so if keep you ear to the ground for job fairs and if K4 is going to be there... the face time certainly wouldnt hurt.

Southern is planning to hire "around 130" pilots this year to cover growth. And we're losing crews at a steady pace too. The process is no longer give the CP a call and if you can start on Monday you're in. A crewmember recommendation is now just one criteria they look at on the application.
So what I'm trying to say is that your chances are better than ever to catch an interview at Southern without knowing somebody on the property.
Make sure you meet minimums, (3000 total, 500 in aircraft over 41000#) or the application software won't even pass your file on to the CPs.
I expect that we will run out of applications well before we run out of jobs.
Oh yeah, one more thing: ask you Captains if they know anyone at Connie or SOO. Friend of a Friend (networking) works too.
