I use it and haven't had any issues in the PRC with it. If you are patient, it will eventually log on. If it locks up, disconnecting, and then reconnecting again usually works.
To get around all of the ads, I log on using Hotspot Shield with Safari, and once it is fully up and running, quit Safari. I then start Firefox with the utrace website (en.utrace.de) as my homepage to verify that the Hotspot Shield is working. The internet then works like you were in the US.
