FDX'ers--looking for used Slingbox
#2
Check out your local craigslist, you might find one there. I bought one new and have really enjoyed it but be careful before you buy... For best results, you need to be able to plug in your TV video feed into the slingbox as well as an ethernet cable. I had to move my home wireless from my upstairs office to downstairs next to the TV.

Sling "Link" allows you to have your Slingbox and router in different rooms.

Anyone who's interested in a used one in good condition, PM me!

The Sling "Link" did not work well with me. I got better results having the Slingbox within connection distance to the cable modem. It IS an option, just didn't work as well with me so I did not mention it. Your mileage may differ.....
FYI, if you think you may want a Slingbox to watch the upcoming NFL season while you're on those weekend layovers, you should check out the NFL Game Pass and maybe get a subscription. For the last couple of years I have taken advantage of some specials they run during the season/playoffs. I don't know how they do it, but the internet stream has always been very good quality each time I've watched a game. It's way better than my Slingbox.

NFL Game Pass is only available to users located outside the United States, Mexico, Bermuda, Antigua, the Bahamas, and any U.S. territories, possessions and commonwealths (including American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) (collectively, the "Game Pass Excluded Territories"). You are not authorized to use NFL Game Pass if you are located in any of the NFL Game Pass Excluded Territories.

The reason SlingLink doesn't work well for many is the unadvertised fact that the two SlingLink units have to be on the same electrical circuit to talk to each other. Most homes have multiple circuits for load distribution, so the chances of the two rooms you want to use being on the same circuit might be unlikely, especially if they're on different floors.
An easier, and probably cheaper, solution is to use an Apple Airport Express. They're only $99 new and $69 refurbished with a new warranty and free shipping from the Apple Store. If you have wifi in your home, you just plug the Airport Express into an outlet near your Slingbox and connect them directly with a network cable. The Airport Express acts as a satellite to your wifi router, so it's the same effect as plugging your Slingbox directly into your router. An added benefit is the Airport Express "rebroadcasts" your wifi signal, so you have even better wifi coverage in your home than you did before.
An Airport Express also comes in handy at hotels where they only have wired internet. You can use it to create your own private encrypted wifi right in your room. The signal is strong enough to share with your crew if they're fairly nearby. Just give them your private network name and password and they're in business.
Good luck with your new travels. Just be aware that certain services such as Netflix do not work outside the US, unless you "trick the system.". You can search this board for tips on how to do that...
